It was always going to be a difficult match on paper for Videoton. One major reason was down to the good performances, which Pecs have produced since getting promoted to the first division last summer. Their ten home league games to date had seen them lose just once, against Ferencvaros by a 2-0 scoreline. Paulo Sousa made a couple of changes to his usual starting eleven. Hector returned at left back, in place of Szolnoki, who had played the last few games in that position. Sandor returned in midfield, alongside Kovacs and Evandro. Young Gyurcso kept his place on the right, which meant that the manager was able to rest key players like Oliveira and Toth. Walter Lee, who has looked sharp in recent games, as well as hard working Torghelle also began the game on the bench.
The first ten minutes of the game were fairly even, but that all changed after 12 minutes. Brachi took a free kick towards the home goal, and Evandro laid the ball into the path of Nikolics, who turned before finding the back of the net, to continue his good goals scoring form. Vidi continued to press forward with the lead under their belts. They were closing Pecs down aggressively, giving the home side little time on the ball. In fact Vidi managed to push Pecs back into their own half for periods of the game. This did not go down too well with them, as they failed to create chances on Bozovics' goal.
Paulo Sousa's side, who were playing in smart dark blue shirts and white shorts, doubled their lead after 40 minutes. This time it was Gyurcso who found the back of the net from 16 meters out. Nikolics showed that he is just as good at laying on a goal for a team mate, as he is in scoring goals. Niko's ball to the young Gyucso resulted in a nice goal, following a good build up. That goal was the second for Gyurcso in the first team. It also meant that Vidi took a healthy looking 2-0 lead in at the break. Pecs looked a different side in the second half, which saw them begin to attack and threaten Bozovics' goal. They managed to get back into the game after 55 minutes. A ball from the left found its way to Andorka, who guided the ball in to the back of the giant Montenegro's goal. The home side continued to attack following that goal. However, it was Vidi who had the next chance following a corner. Nikolics passed the ball out to Gyurcso on the right, who shot at home keeper Dibusz, following a good run, and the keeper produced a good save to keep his side in the game.
