Vidi will now go into the Europa League play off's with the draw taking place on Friday.
Videoton FC were in Champions League action on Wednesday evening at the home of FK BATE Borisov of Belarus. The first leg in Hungary had produced a 1-1 draw as the pair faced up for a second time. Several supporters made the very long 1300km journey by road to follow their favourite side. One thing that was certain from the first leg is that Vidi had to score a goal in the second leg to have any chance of progressing through to the next stage.
Both teams started the game carefully as Vidi kept composed while the home side kept things tight at the back. They were determined not to concede a goal rather than go looking for a further goal. There were free kicks for both sides in the early moments. The match had plenty of action in the middle part of the pitch but there were little if no chances in front of either goal. A Gyurcso cross on 13 meters was headed over the goal by Luijckx. Gordeichuk then saw his shot blocked by Vinicius moments later. Mladenovic had a shot on 20 minutes that produced a very good save from the Vidi keeper. Danilovics then went down after a challenge and he required treatment before being able to continue. Danilovics was in very good form and he was called upon again on 28 minutes to acrobatically tip the ball over the bar after Rodionov headed from close range. Ivanovski then had an unexpected shot at goal from 26 meters, but the ball went wide despite it being a good effort. The home team were the more active towards the end of the first half but again without managing a real effort on goal.
The general picture of the match remained the same in the second half. The home side had more of the attacks on goal. There was barely 3 minutes played of the second half when Mareval suffered an injury that forced him to come off. Fejes came on to replace the French defender at left back. The hour mark saw Gordeichuk control the ball, before lifting it over Danilovics, but fortunately over the bar as well. The Danish referee then produced a red card moments later. It was shown at Dutch midfielder Luijckx for his second booking. Vidi played out the remainder of the match with 10 men as a result. However, they did not allow the home side to have too many chances and the game continued to be played at a good tempo. In fact the visitors were able to have more of the ball and place more pressure on the home side with a man down.
Zhavnrechik controlled the ball shortly after the sending off, before hitting with plenty of strength at goal from 15 meters. The low shot came back off the far post with Vidi eventually clearing the danger. Danilovics was well positioned to save well again from Volodko. The game and tie was settled on 82 minutes when Zhavnrechik crossed from the right and Nemanja Nikolics headed across goal and in to the corner of the net to make it 1-0. Patkai tried with a scissor kick in the final minute but the score remained unchanged and it was BATE who progressed to the next stage with a 2-1 aggregate win.
