Simek played for both Videoton and Ujpest and is looking forward to Sunday's league match.
2003: Újpest FC - Vidi 2-1, 2005: Vidi - Újpest FC 1-1. Are you familiar with the scores and the goalscorers?
Naturally, the first league game was played in very bad weather conditions, when I scored one of the goals for Ujpest FC against Videoton. The second match was in December, in another league match at the Sostoi stadium. My goal was the equaliser for Vidi against Ujpest FC. Football throws up interesting things.
Which team has a bigger part in your heart, Videoton or Ujpest FC?
It is difficult to give an answer, and I honestly cannot choose between the two clubs. However, if I really have to make a choice, then I would only say Ujpest, due to the fact that I played more games for them, but both clubs are close to my heart. I came through the youth ranks at Vidi, and spent many happy years there, but the peak of my career came during my period with Ujpest FC.
11th December 2005: Feczesin gave Ujpest the lead, but Simek levelled and the game ended in a draw. |
Two of your former clubs will come play each other on Sunday, what are you expecting?
Vidi will go into the match as favourites. I feel that in the current championship, and the ones to follow, the Fehervar side will target the title. I do not currently consider Ujpest to be that strong, that they can be up there with the leaders. Videoton have international quality players that would be enough for two sides, while Ujpest only have a few that can play at that level, with the rest being average.
As an opponent at the Sostoi: Ujpest manager Geza Mészöly gives Simek some final instructions in the spring of 2004. |
You have had a good and long 15 year career. How do you look back to those years?
I have been through it all right from when I was a youth player, until the time at 18 years old, when I made it into the first team at Fehervar. Although the club remained very close to my heart, I had to leave the club for various reasons. I went to Gazszer and from there to Vasas, before arriving at Ujpest. I was forced to leave Szekesfehervar, but in the end I did not regret it, as I have already mentioned that the peak of my career came during my time at Ujpest. It was at this time that I played 9 times for Hungary, which was a dream come true for me. I returned later to Vidi following an injury, before a period at Temesvar, where I suffered another injury. I went back to Fehervar, and once again from there to Ujpest. My last move was to Vasas. I am pleased to have played for all these clubs, as I was part of some success, so I cannot be unhappy with what I achieved.
You will be 34 in January, what are your plans for the future?
The time has come when I have to end my professional career. I would like to remain close to football, but I cannot say exactly what the future holds.
Finally, what is your predication for Sunday's match?
Vidi - Újpest 3-0.
