Vidi made it back to back wins at the home of Debrecen with a very good 2-1 win.
Vidi were the visitors at the home of Debrecen for the 34th time on Saturday evening. They had only managed to win four times over the years, with those four coming in 1982, 1994, 2001 and 2005. There were at least 7 years in between two successes in Debrecen - up until today!
It was the home side that started the match better. A cross from the right on 6 minutes went just behind the arriving Castillio inside the box. A more precise ball in could have signalled bigger problems in front of the Vidi goal. Castillio was again looking dangerous after 15 minutes when he shot at goal from 15 meters out, which brought a very good save out of visiting keeper Danilovics. The situation was similar six minutes later when he tipped the ball from a Sidibe header from under the bar. Debrecen keeper Radosevic then run out of his own goal to clear the ball but he connected badly, and the ball went to Suljic, with the midfielder shooting over when well placed.
There were 28 minutes on the clock when a free kick from Tisza proved dangerous, but Danilovics was again well placed to deal with the danger. Vidi went ahead in the game on 32 minutes. The home side lost possession and the ball landed at the feet of Patkai, who brought Feczesin in to play. The forward played a lovely ball in to the path of wide man Gyurcso, who remained calm and bent the ball in to the corner of the net to make it 0-1! Kovacs had a powerful shot 5 minutes later from 15 meters out, while the home goalkeeper did well to deny Gyurcso moments later with another good chance.
It was Debrecen who started the second period more actively. However, the Vidi defence stood firm and dealt with anything that came their way. Gyurcso shot from a tight angle after 53 minutes, which produced a save from the keeper, while the rebound also failed to find the target. Gyurcso found himself with another good chance but his close range effort went wide of the goal. Debrecen then had a free kick in a good position on 62 minutes. Korhut stood behind the ball some 17 meters out and he bent a powerful shot round the ball and beyond Danilovics to bring his side level, 1-1. The score remained the same for just 7 minutes. Another good move from the visitors saw them go ahead for the second time in the game. Feczesin released Kovacs, with his second assist of the game, and the young midfielder did well to keep his composure and place the ball in the corner of the net 1-2!
Debrecen tried hard towards the closing minutes to find an equalizer. Substitute Coulbaly could have scored but another great save from the Vidi keeper denied him and made sure of all three points. The final whistle blew and Videoton picked up a historic win, making it back-to-back league wins at the home of Debrecen. That has now seen Vidi win twice in the space of 7 months. Videoton have now won the most league matches after leaders FTC. They could also move up into second in the table if they can beat Paks next weekend. That would see Vidi go into the winter break in a good position to kick off the spring season. Next week's league match with Paks will also be the final league game at the Sostoi stadium before it is redeveloped. The game will kick off at 15:30pm on the 12th December.
