Videoton turn things around at the end

The match kicked off in the warm summer sunshine, as Videoton targeted all three points against an Eger side, which had come to defend. The two sides had last met 25 years ago in the first division. The last game at the Sostoi between the two ended in a 1-0 win for Eger. Manager Paulo Sousa was forced to watch the game from the stands, having recently been sent off in the Honved match. His coaching staff gave out orders from the touchline in his absence. Vidi fielded a strong line up in what will be an important week for the club. They will travel out to Turkey on Wednesday for the first leg match with Trabzonspor, who had their own scouts at this game. 

The pattern of play was evident inside the first 10 minutes, with Eger happy to have all their men behind the ball, virtually giving up on trying to attack Videoton. The home side attacked down both wings, but the majority of crosses were headed away by the tall Eger defence. Vidi also had plenty of corners in the game, as a further sign of the domination that they enjoyed. The 14th minute saw a lovely bit of skill from Oliveira, as he broke into the penalty area, but he was stopped by Knakal, who used his body to end the danger. Referee Veizer chose not to point at the penalty spot, with Oliveira being at the centre of things 10 minutes later. However, the match official ruled that the Portuguese player had dived inside the area, even handing him a yellow card, as Eger breathed a sign of relief. Vidi dictated play throughout the whole of the first 45 minutes, but could not get behind a tight visiting backline.

Bozsovics produced a very good save after 59 minutes, once again from Koos, who almost made it 2-0! Eger then had a dangerous corner hit the crossbar a minute later, in what was a short period of pressure from the visitors. The visitors then spent the rest of the half defending with all ten men, with the Vidi frontmen often being frustrated by the lack of chances coming their way. Walter delivered a lovely cross from the left on 87 minutes, which Torghelle headed in to level. Things got better in time added on, as Neto rose inside the box, and the referee judged that he had been infringed. Nemanja Nikolics stepped up to send the Eger keeper the wrong way and give Videoton all three points.
