Goals from Nikolics and Zé Luis gave Vidi their fourth straight league win as Kaposvar were relegated from the first division.
Videoton went into the match in fourth place following Ferencvaros' win over Diosgyor on Saturday afternoon. The red and blues were up against a Kaposvar side that were fighting to remain in the first division, going into the match in bottom place. Kaposvar started the game defensively, which painted the picture for the first half. Vidi tried to find gaps in the visiting defence. The first chance arrived after 11 minutes when Alvarez sent a high ball in from a free kick, which the arriving Juhasz headed wide.
Alvarez sent another ball in two minutes later, but Nikolics' header did not hit the target. Alvarez then had a shot on 24 minutes with his left foot inside the box, but it produced a good save from Rusak in the Kaposvar goal. The first attempt from Kaposvar came close to the half hour mark. Balazs hit a powerful shot way over the bar. The resulting attack from Vidi ended with Niko heading at the keeper. The final action of the first period came from Caneira, whose shot went wide of the mark. The two sides went in at the break 0-0.
Zé Luis came on at the break and he broke the deadlock within 6 minutes: Oliveira's high ball in from the right was headed back across goal by Nikolics for the arriving Cape Verde forward to score from close range. (1-0).
Kaposvar opened up following that goal and that allowed Vidi to find more space behind their defence. There were also chances for Kaposvar. Their biggest chance was close to the hour mark and fell to Diallo who blasted over from 10 meters, after a ball in from Okuka. Oliveira could have extended Vidi's lead shortly after but his shot was blocked at the last moment by the arriving defender. Diallo had another shot after 67 minutes for Kaposvar. This time his shot was on target and it was well saved by Calatayud, who was well positioned.
The score was doubled on 74 minutes when Oliveira crossed from the right and Nikolics found the bottom left hand corner. (2-0). Gyurcso had a free kick with 15 minutes remaining but it was saved by Rusak. The match ended 2-0 with Vidi reclaiming third place, and Kaposvar being relegated. Nikolics took his goal tally for the season to 17 with his goal in today's game.
Vidi are next in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Diosgyor in the league cup final. The next league match is on May 18th and an away game at Mezokovesd.
