A 4-1 win over Ferencvaros and the season decider with Kispest to come

A very exciting match saw goals from Lazovic, Stopira, Koch (OG) and Maric secure the win. The league title will be decided next weekend against Honved.

Videoton ran out on to the pitch at Felcsut for the final home league game of the season on Saturday evening. They knew that Honved had earlier beaten Debrecen 5-2 away from home to go 3 points clear at the top of the league table. That meant that a defeat to FTC would have resulted in the Kispest side winning the league on the evening.

The game kicked off with Vidi showing good tempo and the first real action arriving on 4 minutes. Scepovic linked up with Suljic inside the box, which saw the forward in with a good chance on the visiting goal, but the shot from close range was well saved by Dibusz in the Ferencvaros goal. Scepovic then had the ball at his feet a minute later. The Serbian forward ran towards goal, before the final defender put in a dubious challenge, which saw him fall to the ground. Referee Ivanyi waved play on and it was the visitors who went down the other end to take the lead. A corner on 6 minutes fell to Gera, whose shot took a deflection off Nego, and unfortunately rolled into the back of the net to make it 0-1.

Vidi continued to put pressure on the visiting side following the restart. Nego had a chance after 12 minutes when he shot at goal, but Dibusz again came to the rescue of his team. There were efforts at the other end from both Bognar and Varga, but Kovacsik was well positioned to deal with them. A free kick on 24 minutes from Lazovic from around 20 meters out was well saved by the keeper. Moutari showed good pace for the green and whites 10 minutes later. He raced in to make contact with a cross from the right, but his shot went wide of the target. The equalising goal came after 36 minutes when Suljic did well to keep the ball in before crossing for the arriving Lazovic to volley home. It was a fine goal to get Vidi back on level terms 1-1.

Stopira was then involved in a couple of chances on the visiting goal as the first half continued. The defender put Videoton ahead with the second attempt after a Juhasz header came back of the bar. Stopira was well placed to head home the rebound on what was his birthday 2-1.

Before the two sides had the chance to go in at the break, it was the red and blues who further extended their lead. Scepovic brought Suljic into play down the left, and the winger put in a first time ball, which the visiting defender Koch, could only stick out a foot and score an own goal 3-1.

Manager Thomas Doll made two changes at half time. He brought on Kleinheisler and Cukic for Bognar and Gera. Vidi manager Henning Berg kept the same team for the second period. Sulic showed fine skill after 55 minutes down the left wing. He then found Juhasz, who hit a first time shot just wide of the post. There was a fine atmosphere inside the stadium and they saw plenty of battles going on, which were mainly in the middle of the pitch. The next chance on goal arrived after 80 minutes. Scepovic found Geresi with a lovely ball, and the substitute chose to try and pass when well placed to shoot. There was still one final goal to cap a good overall display by Videoton. Dibusz passed the ball to Maric, and the young forward said thank you, before calmly finding the far corner to make it 4-1.

The win and 3 points put Vidi in joint top spot with Honved. The league title will be decided next Saturday at the Bozsik stadium in Budapest. Honved need a win or a draw to be champions. However, a victory for Videoton would see the title go to Szekesfehervar.
