Elek and Sandor help Hungary to a goaless draw

The Vidi duo began the match together in central midfield against Finland

European Championship Qualifer Group G
Hungary - Finland 0-0, Puskas Stadium, Budapest

Hungary played out their final group G match against Finland at the Puskas Ferenc stadium on Tuesday evening. A home crowd of just over 25,000 witnessed Sandor Egervari's side close their group qualifying match with a third place finish, behind winners Holland and second placed Sweden. Hungary lined up with both Gyorgy Sandor and Akos Elek in central midfield with former defenders Pal Lazar and Zoltan Liptak on the bench. Elek played the entire match, showing plenty of energy with surging runs and good combination of passes. Sandor also caught the eye with some intelligent football and well timed runs into space. Hungary found it hard to break through the well marshalled Finland defence, who appeared to be a better side since the last meeting, which saw Hungary win 2-1 away in Helsinki earlier in the year. Elek has been a regular in Egervari's sides while Sandor has recently managed to break into the international set up. The pair may feature in Hungary's next friendly match, which is due to be played in Novemeber away in Poland.
