The mayor of Székesfehérvár MJV announced the decisions and latest developments affecting the club at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
The mayor of Székesfehérvár, Dr. András Cser-Palkovics, announced at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the City Hall that the Székesfehérvár Municipal Council had decided at a closed meeting on Tuesday morning to purchase Fehérvár F.C. Kft. from Futball-F 2007 Kft.
The mayor recalled that on 26th May, he received an open letter from István Garancsi, the owner of Fehérvár FC, stating that either the city would take over the operation of the club or it would be shut down, which would have meant the end of professional football and the youth academy. Vidi, as a leading team in Hungarian football, is a significant local community force with more than 80 years of history, a large fan base and around 450 youth players. This created a clear community demand for the local government to save the club within its means, but there was also a clear social demand that the club should not be financed, maintained and managed by the local government. The two points of view were reconciled on the condition that the city's ownership role would be limited to a single championship season..
Following austerity measures in line with NB II requirements for the 2025/2026 season, Fehérvár FC has sufficient funds at its disposal and the city will not need to contribute financially to the maintenance of the professional football team, but this is only valid for one season, until the summer of 2026. The limited company has free financial resources that the new owner will be able to use, and income from previous player sales that has not yet been received, as well as income from future player sales, will remain with the limited company.
Dr. András Cser-Palkovics said that the necessary legal and financial due diligence had been carried out in the short time available, and that the club had been a fully cooperative partner in the process and had provided all the documents requested. The share transfer agreement is expected to be signed on Thursday or Friday, in which case there will be no obstacle to submitting the NB II registration by the deadline of 16 June. Following the signing of the share transfer agreement, the Municipality and Fehérvár FC will immediately begin searching for a potential buyer or investor who is willing to become a long-term committed owner and financial supporter of the team.
The mayor emphasised that, based on the conditions set out in the municipal council's decision, the local government is not a financial or sports investor, and professional decisions must be made by the company's management. The city will continue to provide HUF 150 million in annual support for youth development in the future. The local government is only willing and able to remain the owner of the club as long as its maintenance does not require financial expenditure on the part of the local government, which means one championship season.
The coaching staff and player squad must be put together in a very short time, and it is a significant professional challenge to build a squad suitable for NB II, as the club currently has very few players under contract. The club would like to take advantage of all MLSZ support, so the squad will consist exclusively of Hungarian players, added Dr. András Cser-Palkovics. The local government will soon convene the members of the Fehérvár VIP Club and ask them to renew their VIP season tickets on the same terms as last season in order to support the team and the city. The local government intends to accept Videoton Holding Zrt.'s offer regarding the use of the Videoton name and will begin negotiations with the holding company's management to this end.
