Videoton win 3-0 against Vasas

Videoton travelled to the temporary home of Vasas on Saturday with just three games left to play of the season. Vidi went into the game at the top of the table after Vasas picked up a point away at FTC last week. That meant that Videoton had control of their own fate with the season nearing its end. Vidi knew that they had to secure a win against Vasas away from home, which they last managed to do back in 2009. Manager Marko Nikolic made one change to his starting line-up to the team that featured last week. Roland Juhasz returned to the heart of the defence in place of Attila Fiola. The travelling Vidi supporters filled the enclosure behind the goal and produced a great atmosphere to help the team.

The game started well for the Fehervar side with Juhasz sending a long ball forward on 6 minutes towards Stefan Scepovic, who played it into the middle for Kovacs, who at first could not convert the chance, but Patkai produced a clever back heel to Kovacs. The midfielder cut in and shot from 15 meters, but keeper Nagy parried his shot and the rebound fell to Stefan, who from close range made no mistake (0-1).

Hangya put in a dangerous cross after 13 minutes, which went across the face of goal, while a back pass from Varga moments later was stopped on his goal line by Kovacsik, who kept hold of the ball a little bit too long. Barczi stole the ball but Vinicius managed to clear the ball with Egerszegi eventually seeing his shot being closed down.

Anel Hadzic appeared to be fouled by James after 23 minutes, with the home player ending up headbutting Hadzic, but he escaped without a caution. Hadzic himself entered the referee's book. The battle in midfield dominated in the minutes that followed with the home side making several fouls to stop the tempo of the match. Varga had the ball at his feet after 38 minutes around the edge of the box, but he chose to pass instead of shoot when well placed. There were no further chances as the sides went in at the break with Videoton leading 1-0.

Istvan Kovacs took a free kick from the wing after 50 minutes, which Juhasz rose to head from 8 meters at goal, but keeper Nagy pulled off a lovely save to tip the ball away with his left hand. The resulting corner was taken by Kovacs, with Nagy punching it clear ahead of Juhasz, before Nikolov shot at goal, but referee Berke blew his whistle for a foul.

Vidi went further ahead when a ball went across goal and Kovacs hit a low shot that went in off a defender to make it 0-2. 

Vasas could have pulled a goal back two minutes later, but Pavlov saw his shot blocked, before the ball fell to Gaal, who from 12 meters saw his shot produce a lovely stop from keeper Kovacsik. The Vidi keeper was again in the thick of the action with another good save. Hangya crossed to Pavlov, whose header from 7 meters out was saved. Marko Scepovic replaced his brother Stefan after 75 minutes, and he could have scored with his first touch, but his shot went over the bar.

Patkai had a shot from 13 meters after 79 minutes, which was saved by Nagy, which came just after Varga saw his shot blocked. There was still more action to follow when Krisztian Tamas came on as a sub and scored with his very first touch after being played in on the left. His first time left footed shot flew into the net to make the final score 3-0.

The win means that Vidi will keep their place at the top of the OTP league table. There are just two games left to play for the red and blues who lead by 4 points.
