Videoton FC played their first pre-season friendly of the winter training camp against top Swiss side FC Basel. Paulo Sousa's side were up against a team that picked up four points against Manchester United in their Champions league group. The Fehervar side more than matched a team who are well above them in the world rankings. Vidi lined up with Bozovics in goal, with a back four of Brachi, Caneira, Vinicius and new signing Jeff Silva. The midfield consisted of Oliveira on the right hand side, with Toth, Sandor and Mitrovic occupying the central midfiled positions, and Walter out on the left. Nikolics played the lone forward but was well supported by the midfield players behind him. Akos Elek and Andre Alves both left the training camp before the match, which meant Paulo Sousa was unable to count on them.

The game began with Videoton creating a couple of chances for Nikolics, but the forward was unable to find the back of the net both times. Vidi were enjoying the majority of possession in the first ten minutes. Sandor saw a thirty meters effort go over the bar after he noticed the Basel keeper off his line after fourteen minutes. Oliveira was also unlucky a minute later, with Basel clearing the danger. Nikolics then shot over with a powerful shot after seventeen minutes. Nikolics managed to get the ball into the back of the net on twenty two minutes, but the linesman flagged for offside.

Caneira headed a Mitrovic corner over the bar after twenty eight minutes. Vidi were creating chances in the opening half hour to the delight of everyone connected with the Fehervar side. Sommer in the Basel goal, did well to save a good effort from Nikolics after thirty three minutes, with the Vidi forward showing strength to shake off his man. Andris tested Bozsovic in the Vidi goal after thrity six minutes, but the Montenegro keeper was equal to his effort. The first half ended with Vidi on top against their superior opponents.

Gyurcso replaced Jeff Silva at half time, with Basel's Sommer having the first chance on goal in the second period. Mitrovics needed treatment after he was fouled on fifty minutes, but he was able to carry on. The fifty sixth minute saw Caneira release Sandor, who shot just over. Torghelle came on for his Videoton debut, in place of Mitrovic after fifty seven minutes, to add more options and fire power upfront. It was Basel who took the lead on the hour mark, when Andris found the corner of the net from about sixteen meters out. Gosztonyi could have scored on seventy one minutes, after Gyurcso broke through the Swiss defence before laying the ball into his path. It needed a good save from Sommer to keep Basel ahead. The keeper did well again to palm away a Torghelle effort, as Vidi looked to press for the equaliser. Another good save from Sommer, from Torghelle after 84 minutes, was needed to keep the narrow Swiss lead. In the end it proved enough as the referee blew the final whistle. The match proved a good work out for Vidi, and Paulo Sousa was proud of his sides performance.
