A first half Robert Feczesin goal was enough to give Vidi the points.
Match 29 of the OTP league season saw Debrecen visit the Pancho Arena on Tuesday evening. Debrecen had long been a bogey side for Videoton, but Vidi have now made it a trio of wins over the team from the east. Director of Sport Zoltan Kovacs handed Zsolt Haraszti with a shirt to confirm the fact that the youngster has made 100 first division appearances.
It was Vidi that started the game better and the first chance arrived on 3 minutes. Vinicius remained unmarked following a corner, before sending a ball in from the left, which Stopira connected with, but his header went just wide of the post. Ferenc Horvath's side won several corners in the first half as they mounted pressure on the visiting goal. Debrecen found it hard to get out of their own half. Elemer Kondas was forced into an early change after Pal Lazar suffered an injury. Vidi put a good move together on 20 minutes: A long throw from Szolnoki was flicked on by Juhasz, which fell into the path of Geresi, who from 15 meters out showed good movement to shoot at goal, but the ball went just wide of the target.
Debrecen were reduced to 10 men on the half hour mark when Brkovic pulled back Geresi, and referee Zsolt Szabo sent him off for being the last man. Vidi took advantage and went ahead 7 minutes later: Simon provided Suljic with a ball down the right, and he sent in a good ball in to the centre, which was converted into the back of the net by Feczesin from close range (1-0).
Haraszti sent in a dangerous corner after 39 minutes, which was collected by Poloskei at the far post, who shot at goal, but it came off a defender. Geresi also brought out a save from keeper Verpecz in the 42nd minute.
There was not much change to the shape of the game in the second half. Vidi confidently defended their lead with the visitors rarely managing to make it into the Vidi half. The 60th minute saw Haraszti curl a ball towards the top left hand corner from 16 meters, which went just wide. Poloskei in the 73rd minute connected with Suljic and Haraszti, with the Bosnian winger finally shooting at goal from 15 meters out. That effort produced a good save from Verpecz. There were no real goalscoring chances in the remaining 15 minutes of the game. Vidi saw out the game with a good 1-0 home win. The three points means that Vidi move up to third in the table.
Videoton are next in action on Saturday with a home match against Vasas. The game kicks off at 18:00pm.
