The most successful Ukrainian side are next up

The Ukrainian domestic championship began back in 1991, following independence. Videoton FC play the second game in the Impact cup on Wednesday, when Dinamo Kiev are the opponents, in a match which will kick off at 13:30pm. Dinamo have won 13 league titles in that time, with the most recent success coming in the 2008-2009 league season. They have finished runners up in the last two championships behind Sahtar Doneck.They have also won 9 Ukrainian cup finals and 5 Super cup's on top of the 13 titles. Dinamo Kiev also won 13 league titles, when they were in the old Soviet Union league, on top of their 9 Cup wins and 3 Super cup successes. 

The Ukrainian domestic league began in the summer and they have already played 20 rounds. Dinamo are currently unbeaten in those games, and enjoy a single point advantage over rivals Sahtar. They have also managed to pick up some notable successes on the international stage. They have lifted the Cup winners Cup trophy twice, back in 1975 and 1986. They also added the UEFA cup in 1975, in a very successful year for them. They most recently made the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup in 2008. 

Vidi are sure to be tested against very strong opposition on Wednesday. Their squad is said to be valued at around the 100 million € range, with 14 of their players have a transfer value of 3 million € or more! Their most valuable player is 22 year old Ukrainian Yarmolenko and 23 year old Nigerian star Ideye, who are both valued at around the 8 million € mark.

The clubs most successful player is unquestionable Andrei Shevchenko. The 35 year old goal scorer began his playing career with Dinamo back in 1994. He helped them to five consecutive league titles during 1995-1999. He then moved to Italian side AC Milan in 1999, where he remained until 2006. He was part of the Milan side that collected the European cup that year, as well as the UEFA Super cup. He also enjoyed a spell in England with Chelsea, between 2006-2008, before returning back to Italy for a year. Shevchenko finally went home to Ukraine in 2009, where he signed for his first club, Dinamo. He did not play in the Impact cup against Young Boys this week, as he only joined up with the squad two days previously. He watched that match from the stands and supported his side. He may feature in Wednesday's match against Videoton, in a match that will be covered on Vidi.hu.
