Match Report: Historical win against Ujpest

Vidi had never before managed to score 5 goals away in Ujpest in the NB I.

Our team were in NB I action on Saturday evening at the home of Ujpest FC. It was also the first competitive game of 2021 for the red and blues. Manager Gabor Marton chose the following side for the game: Rockov - Bolla, Rus, Stopira, Fiola, Hangya - Alef, Houri, Pinto - Funsho, Zivzivadze.

The first chance of the game arrived after 7 minutes, which ended in a goal from Funsho: Zivzivadze playing a lovely ball into the path of the Nigerian forward, who held off his marker before scoring with the outside of his foot to put the ball beyond keeper Banai (0-1).

Tallo had a big chance for the home side two minutes later, but he chose to pass when well placed to shoot, and his ball to Perosevic ended up going wide of the far post. Pauljevic shot from a tight angle moments later from 10 meters, but it went over the bar.

Houri showed good skill before releasing Zivzivadze with a fine ball. The forward dribbled and shot at goal, which rebounded into the path of Funsho, who from close range made no mistake to make it 0-2. The impressive start continued with good football being played and Vidi looking very lively. Pauljevic sent a header over from 8 meters on 22 minutes. Five minutes later and Rus saw his curling free kick from 24 meters go just over the bar. Zivzivadze showed good individual skill close to half time, before shooting just wide of the post.

The teams went in at the break with Vidi comfortably leading 2-0. The second half began with a powerful strike from Perosevic from distance. Rockov was well played to deal with it. We extended our lead after 55 minutes when Funsho found himself on the left following a good move. His ball into the centre was met by Zivzivadze, whose volley from 10 meters, was saved by Banai, but the rebound fell kindly to him and he found the back of the net 0-3.

Petryak came on and he soon found the back of the net after 60 minutes. Mitrovic lost the ball on the half way line. Zivzivadze played a beautiful first time ball into the path of Petryak, who ran at goal and slid the ball to the left of the keeper to make it 0-4.

Palko Dardai came on to make his NB I debut after 66 minutes and Nikolic also joined him in his new number 17 shirt. The first time he had worn that number for five and a half years. That shirt number brought luck as Petryak fed Niko with a good ball after 81 minutes. The Vidi forward making no mistake from 12 meters to find the corner of the net 0-5. It was also Niko's 99th NB I goal for Vidi.

Dardai had a powerful shot from 16 meters go wide but there were to be no further goals as Vidi emerged good 5-0 winners at the home of Ujpest. We had never before managed to score that many at Megyeri ut stadium. Vidi are next in action on Wednesday evening away at Kisvarda.
