This was Videoton's second friendly match against Slovan Bratislava, with the first taking place last year at the Austrian training camp in Windischgarsten. That match ended up in a 1-1 draw. Gyorgy Mezey's side went one better on Wednesday, as they emerged 1-0 winners, thanks to a 32nd minute goal from midfielder Gyorgy Sandor. The match was originally due to be played on the main pitch at the Sostoi stadium. However, overnight snow left a blanket of about 5-10cm, which meant that the match was switched to the astro-turf pitch, beside the stadium. The two youth games planned on that pitch were moved to a later kick off time so that this friendly could begin on time.
The match began like a game of chess with each side trying to gain an advantage in the first fifteen minutes. The first real chance of the match fell to the visitors, but the Videoton defenders managed to clear the danger. Denes Szakaly could have then put the home side ahead a minute later. However, his shot from 15 meters out flew over the bar. The chances then began to come thick and fast. Alves had several chances, but his finishing failed to find the back of the net. Slovan keeper Putnoczky punched a Daniel Nagy cross away in the 29th minute, but it fell to Sandor, who shot wide of the post. The same player made no mistake in the 32nd minute to give Vidi a 1-0 lead.
Chances began to be fewer as the snow eased over Fehervar. Neither side put any real danger on the other goal, with Vidi seeing out the game to win 1-0. Midfielder Gyorgyi Sandor has now scored in both the friendly games so far.
