DVTK progress in the Hungarian Cup

In the third round of the MOL Hungarian Cup, Vidi travelled to face DVTK, whom we had beaten 2–1 in the league earlier in the week in a league game. With Németh unavailable due to illness and Zsótér sidelined through injury, head coach Tamás Pető fielded the following starting eleven: Kemenes – Hesz, Kelemen, Dubecz – Menyhárt, Kovács D., Nagy D., Derekas, Kurdics – Kovács E., Cipf. Our home-grown player, János Dubecz, made his competitive debut for our first team today.

In the 8th minute, Diósgyőr had a goal ruled out due to offside, but by the 10th minute, the players under the management of Tamás Feczkó – DVTK’s old-new head coach – had scored a legitimate goal: following a cross from the left, Galántai headed the ball under the bar (1–0). In the 18th minute, at the end of an attack down the right, Gálfi shot into the side netting; in the 24th minute, Molnár shot from the right, and Kemenes punched the ball away for a corner.

In the 26th minute, Babinszky turned a low, curling corner from the left into our net, doubling the home side’s lead (2–0). In the 32nd minute, we failed to clear the ball after it rebounded off the goalkeeper, and Galántai fired it into the bottom left corner (3–0). In the 40th minute, Dominik Nagy’s shot was blocked by the defenders, as the action continued and then in the 44th minute Nagy found himself through on goal, but Megyeri managed to save his shot, with the score of 3–0 at half-time.

At half-time, we made three substitutions: Bedi, Murka and Nagy Zoárd came on in place of Menyhárt, Kovács D. and Cipf. Shortly afterwards, there was a VAR review lasting several minutes; a possible penalty in our favour was being assessed, but in the end it resulted in a free-kick for the opposition due to an offside. In the 57th minute, following a cross from the right, Gálfi flicked the ball on to Babinszky, who headed it into the net from close range (4–0).

The second half was a much more evenly matched affair than the first half-hour of the first half, resulting in a consolation goal: in the 67th minute, following a cross from the right by Derekas, Erik Kovács sent the ball into the net off the right-hand post (4–1).

In the 78th minute, Kemenes snatched the ball ahead of Babinszyk after a through ball; in the 82nd minute, Megyeri tipped a shot from substitute Bertók over for a corner.

The score remained unchanged until the final whistle, and DVTK progressed to the fourth round with a 4–1 victory. Our team will continue their league campaign next Saturday away at Nagykanizsa.
