Ujpest comfortably beat Gyirmot to face Vidi in the Hungarian cup semi-final.
Vidi were in Hungarian cup quarter-final action on Wednesday at the home of Pecs. The first leg ended in a 2-1 win to the Szekesfehervar side, with the Vidi players suggesting before the game that the first leg result was a dangerous advantage to take into the return leg. This is why they were not counting on it being an easy game at all.
The first 10 minutes did not really produce any real chance. That changed on 12 minutes when a Brachi cross was headed at goal by Feczesin, but it found the hand of Ojdanic Branko with referee Ivanyi pointing straight at the penalty spot. The resulting spot kick was comfortably converted by a composed Feczesin who placed the ball to the right of the keeper (0-1). It is interesting to note that the first leg also produced a penalty, but keeper Gocze saved that effort. Mareval brought down Kovari a couple of minutes after the opening goal. The free kick was taken by the brother of Vidi defender Tibor Heffler, with Norbert Heffler curling the ball on to the bar. Feczesin found the back of the net for the second time on 20 minutes, but it was flagged offside.
There were further chances to increase the lead from Ivanovski, Heffler and Gyurcso, but all three efforts went wide of the post or over the crossbar. There was a dangerous shot from Frank after 37 minutes, but again it failed to find the target. A minute before half time saw Simon release Feczesin, who allowed it to bounce before hitting a shot on the edge of the box, which brought a good stop from keeper Gocze.
Pajac replaced Gyurcso at half time. The second half started with two quick chances. Simon headed at goal following a corner, whole Kovari tested Calatayud from 17 meters out with a good shot. Sandor then went on a run inside and then fed Ivanovski with a fine ball on the hour mark. The Macedonian made no mistake to find the back of the net to make it 0-2. Two red cards were produced in the minutes that followed. The first was on 64 minutes with substitute Pajac sliding in for a challenge with a Pecs player, which referee Ivanyi judged to be a sending off. Pecs sub Markvart then put a challenge on Brachi, having been on the pitch for just two minutes, which resulted in the home player heading for an early shower. Frolich found the back of the Vidi net on 70 minutes, but he was offside and the score remained 0-2.
Trebotic then sent a ball towards Feczesin with six minutes remaining, and the forward's shot was deflected away for a corner. Feczesin repaid the favour a minute later when he found Trebotic, and the Croatian midfielder made no mistake from 11 meters to make it 0-3. Vidi could have extended the lead in the minutes that remained. However, Gocze produced a smart save to deny Feczesin.
Vidi ended up comfortably winning and making it through to the semi-finals after a 5-1 aggregate win. Ujpest stand in the way of a place in the cup final. The other semi-final will see FTC play Szolnok. Vidi are next in league action at the home of Ujpest on Sunday evening.
