MATCH REPORT

An exciting match and a final score of 3-3

The teams inaugurated the new Nyíregyháza stadium with an exciting six-goal game with a point for each side.

A special match took place in Nyíregyháza on early Sunday evening, as the last first division football match in the city was played on 23rd May 2015. In that season, 16 teams were still participating in the NB I and although Szpari did not finish in the relegation place, they did not receive a top flight licence from MLSZ.

In the 2015/2016 season, the team played in the NB III, which they immediately won. Since then, however, they failed to secure a return to the top flight until May this year. Last season, the Nyíregyháza side returned to the first division under the guidance of head coach Krisztián Tímár, who has a thousand ties to Vidi - another big reason for their promotion is our young goalkeeper Martin Dala, who was on loan at Szpari, but Krisztián Géresi and Olivér Tamás are also part of the squad, while Krisztián Tímár is assisted by Tamás Szalai, who also has a strong Vidi background.

Not only because of this, but also because the new Nyíregyháza stadium was inaugurated with this season. After all this, it was no surprise that the home club announced earlier in the day that all tickets had been sold in advance, meaning that the players were able to run out onto the high-quality pitch in front of a full house.

This time head coach Tamás Pető sent his team in the 4-5-1 formation of: Tóth - Melnyik, Serafimov, Spandler, Milicevic - Katona, Christensen, Csongvai, Bedi, Holender - Gradisar.

Nyíregyháza attacked us from the start and in the first minutes they had two corner kicks, and in the 5th minute our opponents took the lead and scored the historic first goal in the new stadium. The scorer of the goal was the same Márton Eppel, who decided the 2017 Budapest Honvéd - Vidi match - and the title. Farkas's right-wing cross was headed home from close range by the 2016/2017 NB I top scorer.

In the 14th minute, a Kovácsréti corner was headed into the box by Kovács, but the ball went over the goal. In the 17th minute, Holender was fouled 20 metres from the home goal, but the free kick was not taken until three minutes later, when the home fans started to let off smoke bombs just behind the goal, and referee Bognár made a wise decision and ordered a break while the smoke cleared. After the short break, Csongvai curled a free kick past the defending wall and right post. We were nearing the end of the first half hour when we lost the ball in the half - with Nyíregyháza going on a counter attach with 3 on 2, eventually managing to block a shot inside the box.

In the 40th minute came the real cold shower, Gresó gave a good ball to Kovácsrétis, who shot wide, the ball was deflected by Bedi, and Tóth had no chance to save (2-0). Our players did not collapse and mobilized with new strength, and the result looked better before the break: with Melnyik's ball Gradisar broke towards the home goal all alone and calmly scored the goal (2-1).

So nothing was decided in the first half, and at the break Tamás Pető made one change to the team, sending Milan Pető on for Bence Bedi.

The second 45 minutes started with a great save by Balázs Tóth, Melynik tried to save with his head in front of the goal, but the ball would have gone under the crossbar, where our goalkeeper made a great save. A few moments later, Eppel took aim at our goal from 22 metres out, but his shot missed by a good metre.

In the 58th minute, Balázs Tóth had a job to do again - and not an easy one. Kovácsréti broke into our box with two nice flicks, and then shot at goal from 15 meters after a rebound, our goalkeeper saved well again.

Four minutes later we managed to equalise. Huszti, who had come on as a substitute half a minute earlier, might not have even touched the ball with his foot, but he still managed to score: after his powerful throw-in, Milán Kovács, who was trying to clear, headed unmarked into his own goal (2-2).

In the 73rd minute, Gresó won a ball in front of the goal and cleverly played in Beké, who was all alone in the middle, but in a point blank situation he missed from 7 metres. Two minutes later, Beke threatened again, this time with a header, but the result was the same - a miss.

In the 85th minute the scores were reversed! Csongvai made a hard tackle, Simut raced inside the box, his shot was saved by Bese, but Alaxai deflected the ball into his own net - another own goal (2-3). But there was not much joy for long, in the 87th minute Babic got hold of a loose ball and fired a shot from 17 yards out into the far bottom corner (3-3).

In the last minutes both teams played for a win, but the home side came a little closer, in the 94th minute Kovácsréti hit the crossbar from 17 metres and the result remained the same. The teams inaugurated the new Nyíregyháza stadium with a really enjoyable, exciting match.

Next week on Friday evening Vidi are at home against MTK Budapest.
