Good win for Videoton in the league

Monicomp League: Videoton - Paks 2-1

Videoton did what they had to do on Sunday evening. The conditions were perfect for a good game of football, with Paks doing their bit to make it an attractive match for the watching crowd. The home win extended Vidi's lead at the top of the Monicomp league table to four points. Andre Alves needed a goal to break a thirty year record of scoring in six consecutive games. Vidi had Akos Elek missing from the midfield as he was serving a ban for a recent sending off. Balazs Farkas returned to the centre, with Andras Gosztonyi coming in on the right for the injured Daniel Nagy. There was also a place on the subs bench for Martin Mutumba.

Manager Gyorgy Mezey was forced to watch the game from the stands, having been sent from the bench in the away game at Papa. Things began well for Vidi as they attacked from the kick off. Gosztonyi hit a shot, which found the back of the net following a deflection. However, that seemed to wake Paks up, and it was the visitors who began to pressure on Mladen Bozsovics' goal. Vidi were aggresive and also played well, stringing good passes together. The away side were brave on the attack and should have equalised, relying on the counter attack, and Vidi's in form keeper needed to be alert at all times.

Paks were seeing more of the ball but Videoton's defence stood firm. Alves was showing good movement and touches, as he looked to break the 30 year record and make the game safe. He did just that after a penalty was awarded, when the Paks keeper brought down Polonkai. Alves confidently sent the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0 at the break. It was perhaps not what Paks deserved at that stage of the match. Videoton went on to dominate after the break, with Alves having efforts on goal. Paks did not come forward as much as they did in the first half, with them happy to defend in numbers, to keep the score down. Martin Mutumba received a great response from the home crowd, when he came on to replace Laszlo Lencse. He showed a few clever touches and set up Alves, who almost made it 3-0, but his shot bounced back off the post. Paks did manage to score a consolation goal from the spot, when Liptak fouled Bode. Defender Eger made the result more respectable, but it was too little, too late. The win gives Vidi 24 points from the first 10 games, which is a great return so far.
