The Brazilian forward recently travelled out to Cyprus for discussions with Omonia Nicosia
Videoton FC clearly expressed its intention several times since the summer that it counts on Andre Alves in the long run. Several contract extensions were offered to the forward, with none of those being accepted, with the club finding his conditions unrealistic. Our football club received acceptable offers over the autumn period from several football clubs, but once again, he rejected all of them. Videoton FC received an offer from a South Korean club at the beginning of the Spanish training camp in January. Both our club and the player accepted the offer given. SInce Alves and the management of the South Korean club confirmed that the offer had been accepted, Alves was allowed to travel home from the Spanish training camp, in order for all three parties to sign the contract. Once he had arrived back in Hungary, something or someone changed his opinion, bringing Videoton FC into a vulnerable situation.
Despite this situation we continued to work on to try and find a resolution. The player clung on to an offer from a Cypriot club. Videoton FC allowed the player to travel out to Omonia Nicosia and discuss terms with them. The representative of Videoton FC also travelled out to Cyprus with the player, and held discussions with the Cypriot club. Omonia Nicosia made Videoton FC an offer, which we found unacceptable. It was during the final meeting between the two clubs, that the representative of Videoton FC was told by the Cypriot club official, and not from Alves himself, that the player had already signed a pre-contract agreement with them. As a result, Alves will become a Nicosia player once his present contract expires in the summer. In the meantime, he will will no longer feature for the first team, and will spend the spring season with the second team, enjoying the same conditions as the other players in that team.
