Gyurcso scored the deciding goal in the 43rd minute, with both keepers producing good saves, with Calatayud on form.
The two sides met again on Wednesday evening in the Hungarian cup, following Sunday's OTP league match in Budapest. Joan Carrillo made a total of 8 changes to the side he fielded in the weekend game. Only Calatayud, Gyurcso and Trebotic started the game out of those that had begun the previous match between the two. Ujpest played the same starting 11 as they did three days earlier.
As is typical with two-legged cup games, the two sides did not start the match on the attacking foot. The cup holders had more of the possession in the first 10 minutes, before Vidi gradually began to take over. However, the general shape of the game was highlighted by the fact that the first chance on goal only arrived after 31 minutes. That saw Ivanovski shoot at Balajcza's goal, but the effort hit the foot of a defender to go out for a corner. Ujpest's Suljic ran at goal on 42 minutes, before ending up on the floor after Calatayud had raced out of his goal, but the match official produced the yellow card at the visiting player for diving. A nice move a minute later saw Feczesin cross in to the middle, but it was just too high for Ivanovski, but perfect for Gyurcso, who arrived at the far post to score a good goal. (1-0).
There were no changes at half time from either manager, with the second period mirroring the way the first had started. An Ujpest corner after 54 minutes was punched out by Calatayud, before being volleyed first time by a visiting player. Brachi was well placed on the goal line to head clear the danger. There was an interesting period on the hour mark, in front of the Ujpest goalmouth. A cross from Nagy was flicked at goal by Andric, which produced a good stop on the line by Calatayud. The resulting home attack could have seen the score extended. Heffler's close range shot was well saved by Balajcza. Defender Heris then fired over the bar when well-placed shortly after.
The 71st minute saw Brachi do well to clear the danger in front of goal. Ujpest tried very hard to get the equalizer. A powerful Balogh shot from 17 meters on 77 minutes again produced a smart stop from the big Spanish keeper in the home goal. Bardhi then had a free kick bounce just in front of Calatayud, but he managed to hold on to the ball. Gabor Nagy had a long distance strike saved in the 89th minute.
There was 4 minutes of injury time that included 2 corners for Ujpest, but there were no further goals in this semi-final, first leg tie. The two will meet in the return leg on the 28th April. Vidi are next in action at the weekend when they play host to Haladas in the OTP league.
