2014-2015 season in review

Videoton named Gyozo Burcsa as the new Director of Sport towards the end of the previous season. Joan Carrillo was named new head coach and replaced Jose Gomes.

Key players arrived to the club

Among the new arrivals over the summer was 11 times capped forward Robert Feczesin. Tibor Heffler and Midfielder Adam Simon were others to make the move to the club. Keeper Tamas Horvath arrived from Mezokovesd, while Dinko Trebotic came in from Croatian club NK Lokomotiva Zagreb. Chakla Soufiane also moved to Szekesfehervar and Vidi made another move for a Croatian player with Marko Pajac arriving. Zsolt Nagy came on a season long loan from the Puskas Academy.

There were several departures over what was a busy summer. Paraiba and Lupeta left, as did midfielder Nildo Petrolina and Vitor Gomes. Defender Mamadu was another to head out of the club. Donat Zsoter moved to Dunaujvaros in a loan move, together with Adrian Szekeres and forward Milan Perics. Tomas Tujvel joined Kecskemet in a season long loan deal. Balazs Toth extended his loan with Puskas Academy for a further year, while Zsolt Haraszti returned to Paks. That resulted in a 22 man squad for the season ahead.

Vidi faced a famous team in their pre-season preparations

Paris Saint Germain were the pre-season opponents in a game played in Austria. The French side emerged 4-3 winners in an exciting friendly. Pre-season came to a close with a 1-1 draw against Ujpest.

All records are broken

Vidi kicked off the new season in the sunshine and a 3-0 win over Lombard Papa. That was followed by three more points in a 3-0 win over Dunaujvaros. An exciting game with Győr saw Vidi come from behind to win 3-2. The good run of results continued as Nyiregyhaza were beaten on their home pitch 2-0. MTK were then beaten 5-0 with Nikolics breaking the goalscoring record set by Andre Alves.

It was hard to halt Videoton as the season continued. A good 3-0 win over the Puskas Academy was followed by a 2-0 success against Ujpest. The record start continued as Haladas were beaten 2-0 in Szombathely. DVTK left empty handed from the Sostoi stadium after a 2-1 win for the men in red and blue. Another three points were picked up away at Pecs.

The 100% winning start came to an end in week 11 of the season. Videoton lost 2-1 at home to Debrecen, but that failed to derail the team. Paks were beaten 2-0 to gain win number 11. Vidi sat six points clear at the top after winning 1-0 at Honved. A point on the road at Kecskemet cemented a record number of points for any club over the autumn season. Week 15 of the campaign resulted in a 0-0 draw with Ferencvaros. That produced 38 points including 12 wins, 2 draws and a single defeat. Videoton went into the winter break sitting comfortably at the top of the league table. 

Five goals were scored away from home as Vidi easily came away with the points from Papa. Another good win saw a 4-1 scoreline against Dunaujvaros. The year ended with a record amount of points secured. The club also revealed their exciting new plans to redevelop the Sostoi stadium.

Progress in both the Hungarian cup

Videoton beat Testveriseg 7-1 away as the Hungarian cup campaign kicked off. Kunszallas saw eight goals go in past them as Vidi cruised into the next round. SzTK were beaten 2-1 on their home pitch to clinch a place in the last 16. DVTK were knocked out after losing 2-1 to Videoton. 

No major player movement in the winter window

Three players joined the club during the winter window. French defender Remi Mareval, Macedonian striker Mirko Ivanovski and Dutch midfielder Kees Luijckx all came in to the club. Laszlo Kleinheisler moved on loan to the Puskas Academy for half a year.

Pre-season in Spain

The squad started pre-season on the 15th January and were on their way to Spain a couple of days later for their training camp. They would spend 13 days there and play friendly games, which included a 5-1 win over UD San Pedro and a 2-0 defeat to 1860 Munchen.

That was the first of two training camps with the second also being in Spain. Notable practice games included CSKA Moscow and Dinamo Kiev.

Second league title secured

The first spring league game resulted in a 2-2 draw away at the home of Győr. That was followed by a 3-0 win over Nyiregyhaza and a 1-0 win away at second in the table MTK. Both sides failed to score when Vidi met the Puskas Academy as the season continued. 

The 1-0 win over Ujpest meant the lead at the top of the table was now 10 points. There was a big win over Haladas at the Sostoi stadium and a 2-1 win away at DVTK. An impressive 4-0 win against Pecs just added to the feel good factor as Vidi headed towards their second ever league title success. 

Videoton had not been able to win away at Debrecen for 14 years but a 2-1 win at their new stadium shattered that record. Ferencvaros failed to beat Pecs the following day, which meant that Videoton were crowned champions for the second time. That saw the supporters come out on to the streets of Szekesfehervar to party late in to the night.

The final four games of the season produced a mixed bag of results. Vidi lost 1-0 away at Paks and took a point from the game at Honved. Kecskemet were beaten 1-0 and the season ended with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Ferencvaros in Budapest. That did not change matters as Videoton ended the season in top spot.

Runner's up in the Hungarian cup

The Hungarian cup continued into the spring and Vidi beat Pecs 2-1 in the first leg. The return leg saw a comfortable 3-0 win to progress into the semi-finals. Ujpest were the opponents and they were beaten 4-1 over two legs. The final was disappointing as Vidi lost 4-0 to Ferencvaros in Budapest.

It was a wonderful season overall and the team performed well to qualify for the Champions League in the summer.
