It is difficult to know just where to start regarding the 90 minutes at the ZTE arena. Paulo Sousa made changes to his starting eleven, adding some freshness to his team. Tujvel returned in goal for Vidi, keeping his place after helping the red and blues to the league cup final win during the week. Szolnoki contnued at right back in place of the injured Brachi, with Hector enjoying an extended run at left back. Vasko came into the side to partner Vinicius, as Caneira dropped down to the subs bench. Gyurcso began the match on the right with Gosztonyi playing on the other wing. The central midfield positions were occupied by Toth, Sandor and Kovacs in a more attacking position. The ever dangerous Nikolics played up front in search of more goals.
ZTE needed to win this match, and truth be it also had to perform a miracle, whilst relying on others to remain in the first division. Laszlo Prukner's side went into the match having yet to win a single game this season. A very small crowd witnessed this game, with many home supporters choosing to show their feelings by not turning up. A large banner infront of the home supporters read "We are boring!" The match began at a slow pace in sunny conditions and on a pitch, which had not been cut as much as perhaps possible. The first real chance of the game came when Toth cleverly released Nikolics, and the striker shot from an angle, which saw the home keeper save well. Kovacs then had a shot go over the bar after a ball from Hector with 21 minutes on the clock. Andras Gosztonyi was seeing plenty of the ball early on and Vidi were also winning several corners.
Brkic then had the first real chance for the home side. He headed powerfully from close range, needing the alert reaction of Tujvel to tip the ball over the bar. The game changed on 37 minutes with Gyurcso's attempted low cross into the box from the right. The defender appeared to handle the ball while lying on the ground. The referee awarded a penalty, which caused the ZTE players to lose their discipline and tempers. One of the home players appeared to kick the ball straight at the linesman. The match official seemed to show the red card at a different player. That was too much for home keeper Jahic, who made contact with the referee, and it is fair to say, pushed and shoved Gabor Olah, which saw him also seeing red. The home team were suddenly down to 9 men and facing a penalty against them. Nemanja Nikolics kept his composure to hit the ball into the corner of the net to give Vidi the lead. The referee then blew for half time, which probably could not come quick enough for the home side.
The second half kicked off with Vidi trying to take the game to the home side, making use of their man advantage. Gyucso sent in a free kick after 53 minutes, which went over the heads of the players and out for a goalkick. The home keeper then had to react to a Kovacs shot, after being nicely set up by Gosztonyi. Perics came on to replace Sandor, adding more attacking possibilities for Vidi. Perics was causing trouble for the defenders with his presence straight away. The 66th minute saw a corner from Gyurcso flicked on by Vasko, with Perics hitting it wide from close range. ZTE then hit Vidi on a quick counter attack. Brkic shot and Tujvel reacted well to clear the danger. Vidi were then reduced to 10 men when Vasko was judged to have pulled back a home forward, even though it appeared as if the player had handled first.
Gyurcso then took a wonderful free kick on 72 minutes, which Vlaszak did brilliantly to save. Vidi doubled their lead after 74 minutes. Another good cross from Gyurcso was headed at goal by Perics, with Gosztonyi hitting home the rebound. It was no more than the winger deserved, and that goal will have done him a lot of confidence. The match official blew for time and Vidi picked up the important 3 points, which was their main target. They will now hope that both Győri ETO and Debrecen slip up on Sunday. The defeat to ZTE also meant that they will be playing second division football next season.
