Videoton and Diosgyőr met each other for the second time in three days in the Hungarian cup, fifth round, first leg tie at the Sostoi stadium. The two had played out a 2-2 draw in Miskolc on Sunday evening. The weather was cold with it being around 3 °C when the two teams ran out. There were several changes to the home side, including Gyepes and Brachi taking their places in the home defence, while Lupeta also started the match up front.

The two sides kicked off at a good tempo, which saw plenty of hard work being put in around the pitch. However, there were few real chances to talk about in the opening moments. The visitors caused problems from Goher's long throw, and the powerful play from Futacs. Vidi also threatened from a Kleinheisler corner and some good dribbling skill from both Kovacs and Oliveira.

Diosgyőr were forced in to a change after 33 minutes with forward Marko Futacs having to come off. David Barczi replaced him for the visitors. Kleinheisler then showed a good burst of pace towards the end of the first half, while Batioja missed a good chance for the Miskolc side. Goher's free kick came back off the post into the hands of keeper Calatayud.

José Gomes made two changes at the break. Lupeta and Sandor made way for Zé Luis and Vitor Gomes. Vidi went on to have more of the possession in the second half, but the countless crosses were met by the defensive wall of Diosgyőr. Zé Luis then controlled a nice ball from Oliveira, before trying to shoot but the defenders foot intercepted the move and the danger was cleared. Goher then saw his second free kick come back off the bar as the score remained at 0-0.

With the game nearing the end, a Zé Luis shot and a header from Gyepes both went close while a final minute Brachi free kick went inches wide of the post. The second leg will now take place on the 4th December in Miskolc with an 18:00pm start.
