Three times Romanian champions next up for Vidi

Rapid Bucharest provide the opposition for Videoton FC in their latest pre-season friendly

Videoton FC play the latest pre-season friendly match at their base in southern Spain. Romanian side Rapid Bucharest will be looking to test new manager José Gomes' Videoton side, in the Sunday afternoon friendly game. Rapid were founded back in 1923, and have gone on to win the domestic league championship three times since. Those successes came in seasons 1966–67, 1998–99, 2002–03. They have lifted the Romanian cup 13 times, with the most recent cup win happening back in 2006-07.

came in the 2005-06 season. They made it right up to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. That run included wins over Feyenoord, Sahtar Donetz, PAOK and Stuttgart. Rapid finished fourth in the most recent league championship, ending just two points behind Steaua. That fourth place finish earned them the right to compete in the Europa league this season, entering just as Videoton did, at the second qualifying stage.

They saw off MYPA 5-1 before going out of the competition following a 4-1 aggregate lose to Dutch side Heerenveen. Rapid currently find themselves in 9th place after 19 league matches in their domestic league. They will have to work hard and improve significantly over the second part of the season, to have any hope of qualifying for Europe again. Bucharest played a friendly game with Ukrainian side Dnipro two days ago in Spain. Rapid ended up losing the practice match 3-1, with the match action in the video below.
