One step away from the fifth league cup final

The League cup was first played during the 2007-2008 season, with Videoton FC becoming the very first winners. The competition was split over the autumn and spring periods, with the winners of the autumn meeting the spring winners in the league cup final. Vidi beat Debrecen 1-0 at home and 2-0 in the away leg to win 3-0 on aggregate.

The cup remained in Szekesfehervar a year later with the league cup final now being played over one single match. Videoton beat Pecs 3-0 in the final, which was held in Siofok. Vidi made it a trio of cup successes following their 3-0 win against Kecskemet, which was played at the home of the violets. The final ended in a 3-0 win for the red and blues.

Videoton made it all the way to the final last year, although they will want to forget the cup final, which saw Ferencvaros win 5-1 at the Sostoi stadium. Vidi began this seasons league cup in Group E, finishing in second place to progress through to the next stage and an aggregate win over Kaposvar. The next step was the quarter-finals where they would overcome Pecs. Vidi were paired with Debrecen in the semi-finals with the first leg taking place at the home of Debrecen. That match ended in a memorable 5-1 win for Vidi, who go in to the return leg on Tuesday looking to make it in to the final for the fifth time. They could face the victors from the DVTK - FTC match, with the first leg ending in a 2-1 win for the Miskolc side.
