Vidi started the game well but it was FC Ajka who surprised the visitors by taking the lead. Videoton comfortably won to secure their place in the next round of the league cup.
Videoton played their final league cup group match at the home of FC Ajka on Tuesday afternoon. Vidi needed just a point to be certain of going through to the next round against an Ajka side that had little to play for with one point to their name. Ajka had a new manager on the bench after Istvan Klement was replaced by Zoran Kuntic last month.
Videoton started the match with a good tempo, creating several goalscoring chances in the early moments. Kleinheisler saw his low left footed shot saved well by the home keeper, who was celebrating his 24th birthday. Sandor then released Szolnoki down the left a minute later, who took the ball forward before laying the ball in to the path of Pajac, who showed elegant movement to hit an effort from 8 meters out, which hit the left post and the crossbar. Kleinheisler showed good skills 3 minutes later inside the box, which ended up with a left footed shot from close range, which was again well saved by Akos Tulipan. A great ball from Kleinheisler played in Pajac, who crossed from the right into the middle for the arriving Sandor to volley the ball over from 7 meters.
The home side then sprang a surprise two minutes later! The first move in to the Vidi half produced a goal, following a quick counter attack, which saw Szabo cross to the far side for the unmarked Kalasz to beat Horvath from a tight angle to make it 1-0. The goal had an effect on Vidi, who almost went further behind after Weitner blasted his shot against the bar from 13 meters. Vidi almost levelled on the half hour mark: Pajac sent a ball in to the centre from the left, which found Heffler alone in front of goal, who then controlled it, looked up and hit the ball at goal from 5 meters, but it brought a great save out of Tulipan.
The equalizer arrived 6 minutes later. Pajac received a nice ball on the left wing, which he controlled really well and his good ball in to the box was met by Feczesin, who slid in to score from close range 1-1. Vidi took the lead a minute before half time. Kleinheisler dribbled in from the left, before curling the ball past Tulipan to make it 1-2.
Sandor was replaced by Trebotic at the break. The second half started quietly with little action in front of either goal. That was broken on 55 minutes through Pajac. His very strong shot went just wide of the home goal. There was a total of 8 changes made by the two managers on the hour mark. However, it did not really change the outcome of the match. The ball bounced around following a corner on 68 minutes, before Trebotic scored a goal from close range to make it 1-3.
The Croatian then created a goal a minute later, when his ball found Heffler, who made no mistake from close 1-4. The final event of the game came in the 91st minute. Krisztian Geresi scored a very nice goal after lifting the ball over the advancing Tulipan to make it 1-5. The first stage of the knockout round will be played on the 2nd and 9th December. The draw will be made within the coming days at the Hungarian FA.
