Match Report: Vidi go out of the Hungarian Cup on the away goal rule

A 2-2 draw at the MOL Arena Sosto resulted in a 3-3 aggregate score and Mezokovesd go through on the away goal rule.

Vidi played the Hungarian Cup semi-final, second leg match on Tuesday night at the MOL Arena Sóstó. The first leg against Mezőkövesd ended 1-1 on Saturday. Joan Carrillo made two changes to his starting team from three days ago, Nego and Elek came in, while Pátkai and Funsho did not start.

The visitors started the match better, right at the beginning Karnitski's header went 10 meters wide of the goal. Then in the 8th minute they took the lead: a cross from the wing saw Musliu try to clear with his head, with the ball coming off the goal post and rebounding off Zivzivadze's body and into the back of the net  (0-1).

Two minutes later, Elek's pass was headed in front of goal by Fiola, with Musliu arriving and trying to make contact with his head, but one of the visiting defenders kicked him in the head, but instead of a penalty, the match official gave a corner while Musliu received treatment. In the next 20-25 minutes there were not too many opportunities, with the relative silence being broken by a shot from Zivzivadze, whose effort from 14 meters went wide. By the end of the first half, the game became lively, with Nikolic firing just wide while Besirovic shot from 15 meters at the other end but fortunately it was off target. Before the break, Kovács' pass to Nego did not make clean contact from 13 meters, despite it being a great opportunity.

The second half started with changes at the break, which saw Fiola being replaced by Hodzic. In the 50th minute, Kovács brought Nego into play with a clever backheel, and he aimed for the near corner from 11 meters, but keeper Szappanos did well to save with his foot. Five minutes later, the visitors increased their lead: Following a counter attack, Zivzivadze passed to the far corner and Pekár made no mistake from 10 meters (0-2).

In the 58th minute, a good close range chance from Hodzic was well saved by Szappanos again. In the 60th minute, Nikolics found the net of Mezőkövesd, but according to the referee, the goal was ruled offside and was not given. The action continued in the 63rd minute when we managed to score a consolation: a flat ball from the right was powerfully met by Hodzic who shot under the bar from 15 meters, it was a big goal (1-2).

In the 69th minute, Kovácsik did well to tip away a good chance from Myhailo, from just under the bar. In the last 15 minutes of the match, we completely squeezed the visitors back in front of their goal, and it brought its reward in the 86th minute: our 10th corner was headed powerfully home by Stopira (2-2) to give the keeper no chance.

In the end, Roland Juhász also came on to add extra muscle to the forward line next to Futács and Nikolics,  but despite the pressure, Vidi were not able to score a further goal and the game ended in a 2-2 draw, which meant Mezőkövesd making it into the cup final on the away goals rule following a 3-3 aggregate score.
