Goals from Nego and Geresi secured all three points for Videoton in Budapest on Saturday.
Vidi made the trip to Budapest to face a Honved side that went into the game on the same points as the Szekesfehervar side. In lovely autumn conditions, it promised to be one of the games of the weekend. A win would see Vidi climb into the top three as a near 3 week break approaches due to the international qualifiers. Henning Berg brought Feczesin into his starting line-up, while Hadzic made his league debut in place of Patkai in midfield.
The first chance of the game came on 6 minutes when Feczesin sent a shot into the side netting from 15 meters out, although a defender did get a foot to the ball. Vidi, who were playing in an all white kit, then continued to press forward. Lazovic sent a ball in from the left after 10 minutes, which was headed at goal by Fiola, but keeper Grof pulled off a great stop to deny him. Lazovic continued to be in the thick of the action and his 16th minute long range effort went wide of the target. Honved had their first chance after 18 minutes when a Hajdu cross was headed at goal by Bobal, but Kovacsik was well place to deal with it. A low shot from Prosser on 21 minutes was also saved by visiting keeper Kovacsik. Midway through the first half, Feczesin cut in from the left and sent a good shot, which produced a smart save from Honved keeper Grof.
Videoton went very close to taking the lead on 31 minutes: Lazovic did really well to bring Nego into play, and his volley towards the far post almost resulted in Feczesin connecting with it. The ball ended up with Geresi who shot from a tight angle, which eventually came back off the post. The breakthrough arrived after 34 minutes when a Lazovic corner was headed home by Juhasz with the ball finding the back of the net. (0-1.)
Honved were back in the game right on half time. A Lanzafame header rebounded off the post and hit Nego's back to roll over the goal line. (1-1).
Vidi started the second half well and went ahead for the second time in the game after 53 minutes. Geresi raced on to a good ball, before beating his marker and hitting a sweet shot with the outside of his foot that flew into the top corner! (1-2.)
A free kick after 61 minutes from Lanzafame went just over the bar. Geresi saw his header go just over from close range after a ball in by Feczesin. Honved's Italian forward was always close to the action, which was confirmed in the 71st minute with his shot that went over. The resulting counter attack ended with a low shot from Geresi being saved by Grof. Kamber sent a high ball in from the right, which was nicely met on the volley by Zsoter, but his shot ended up in the side netting. Honved tried hard and went in search of the equaliser in the final 10 minutes, but they could not create a serious chance and Vidi were always comfortable at the back.
The 3 minutes of injury time did not produce any further goals, and Videoton picked up a good 2-1 win at the Bozsik stadium in Kispest. The 3 points has closed the gap to 2 points with leaders Vasas. Vidi are next in action on the 15th October when they visit DVTK in the OTP league.
