Vidi travel to Szeged in the MOL Hungarian Cup on Tuesday

The attention switches to the Hungarian Cup with a visit to NB II side Szeged.

On the 8th Tuesday at 20:00, we will play against Szeged-Csanád Grosics Akadémia, the fifth place team in the NB II championship, in the MOL Hungarian Cup away in Szeged.

The Szent Gellért Forum stadium will not be a completely unfamiliar ground for our team, as we played twice in Szeged in the 2019/2020 season. On the 3rd December 2019, we played for the last 16 in the Hungarian Cup against Szeged, who were also then playing in the NB II, and after a 0-0 draw in normal time, we won the game with an own goal in the 103rd minute against the home team, who were playing with a man down at the time. Szeged were 12th in the league back then, so we will probably be playing a much stronger team on Tuesday evening.

Our opponent in the next Cup round was Újpest back then, and the purple and white team from the capital chose Szeged as the venue, as the Szusza Ferenc Stadium was not suitable for football at the time. In the last eight, two matches decided the qualification, the first match in Szeged was goalless, and we fought it out in the MOL Arena Sósto.

So we've played two tough cup games so far at the St Gellért Forum and it's likely to be no easy encounter on Tuesday night for the rebuilding Vidi.

(In 2019, Vidi was the first NB I team to play a competitive match at the Szent Gellért Forum)

Szeged-Csanád Grosics Akadémia is in 5th place in the 20-team NB II with 39 points after 22 rounds in the 20-team season 2021/2022, while the leader DVTK has 46 points and the second-placed Vasas has 45 points. The Szeged side has won 11 of its 22 league games, while Tuesday's opponents have lost 5 league games this season, with 6 draws. Szeged have only suffered two defeats at home so far this season, with Szentlőrinc and Békéscsaba leaving the Szent Gellért Forum with 3 points. At the same time, Dragan Vukmir's side managed to beat league leaders DVTK 2-1, while Szeged played out a 0-0 draw against Vasas, who are also fighting for promotion to the NB I.

Tuesday's opponent will also feature several former Vidi players, as Ádám Simon, Zsolt Gajdos and Máté Ódor also play in Szeged. The most successful player of the NB II team is 20-year-old Krisztofer Horváth, who has scored 7 goals so far.

In this season's MOL Hungarian Cup Szeged beat Kelen SC 4-0 in the same division as Vidi II, and then knocked out NB I Mezőkövesd on penatlies in the previous round of the cup.
