Vidi take on 12 times league champions Hibernians FC in the EL

The team will play in the Europa League Q2 on Thursday evening in Malta.

On Thursday night at 7 pm in Malta, our team will play against the 12-time Maltese champions, Hibernians FC, in the 2nd qualifying round of the Europa League. The match will be decided over one game again, with the meeting being held behind closed doors. If the scores are level after 90 minutes, there will be extra time played and a possible penalty shootout to determine who goes through. According to our information, Vidi will be playing the match on an astro-turf surface, which Gabor Marton also spoke about at the press conference following the last league match against Puskas Academy FC.

Our Maltese opponents were founded 98 years ago, in 1922. They first won the league title in 1967, and since then have proved to be the best team in the country 11 more times. Most recently in 2017, Hibernians FC celebrated a championship title. They have won the country's domestic Cup ten times and the Super Cup three times.

Last season, our EL opponent finished third in their league. In the EL 1st qualifying round, as a non-seeded team, they won 2-0 at the home of Vaduz. The Maltese team started in a 4-3-3 line-up and 23-year-old Jurgen Degabriele won the match with two goals. The team’s most valuable player is 33-year-old Brazilian defender Leandro Almeida, whose estimated value is € 650,000, while the total value of the squad is estimated at € 3.2 million by transfermarkt.de.

The Maltese season hasn’t started yet, so our opponents played their last match against Vaduz on 27 August.
