A goal from Robert Feczesin gave Vidi a 1-0 first leg lead to take into the second leg.
It was never going to be an easy game in Budapest on Wednesday evening. Vidi were up against the league leaders. Only Ujpest managed to win at the Groupama Arena during the autumn season. 2015 saw Videoton play Ferencvaros five times, with all five games ending up in successes for the green and whites. Manager Ferenc Horvath also had to do without several players who are currently recovering from injuries.
Both teams started the game on the back foot, which saw them playing with plenty of care and concentration, which was no surprise as the tie would be settled over 180 minutes. The first 6 minutes passed without any events. Rado then dribbled his way in to the Vidi box on 7 minutes, before bringing Varga into play on the right. Varga sent a powerful shot at goal from a tight angle, which Danilovics punched away for a corner.
A long range shot on 25 minutes from Gera did not find its target. Vidi had their first real chance after 41 minutes. Nego went down the right and sent a good cross into the middle, which was met well by Feczesin, which brought a good save out from Dibusz. Ferencvaros managed to clear the resulting corner in to the Vidi half. Patkai received the ball and sent a long ball forward towards the home box. A mix up in the FTC defence allowed Feczesin to steal in behind the centre backs and flick a header over the stranded Dibusz (0-1). That was Vidi's first ever goal at the new FTC stadium. Ferencvaros could have levelled a minute later, but Lamah sent his effort wide of the post.
There was 10 minutes on the clock in the second half when Haraszti brought the ball forward down the left. He sent in a lovely cross for the arriving Suljic, but a home defender was on hand to block his chance. Feczesin again found the back of the net after 65 minutes, but that effort was flagged offside. The score remained with Vidi leading 1-0. Haraszti then sent a good free kick from a promising position on 71 minutes, which went over the bar.
There were no real chances during the remaining moments in the game. Vidi played a good tactical game over the course of the evening, and will take a goal advantage into the second leg. That game will take place in Felcsut on the 2nd March. Videoton are back in action in the OTP league on Saturday, when they make the visit to Budapest to play Ujpest.
