The focus switches to the Europa league on Thursday with the visit of Swiss side Basel
Hungarian international Vilmos Vanczák has been a stable member of Swiss club FC Sion since 2007. He is the Hungarian player who is probably best placed to give a short insight into FC Basel, who visit the Sostoi stadium on Thursday.
How strong is the current Basel side?
Several big players left the club in the summer, and they were unable to replace them with similar quality players, so I would say that they have weakened compared to last season. Despite this it would not be wise to underestimate them, as we are still talking about a strong side, which puts their emphasis on attacking
Do you think that Videoton can be a match for their Swiss opponents in the Europa League group stage?
I believe that if Videoton play with the same defensive discipline, as they did most recently against Sporting, and if they take the chances that come their way, then I feel that the Fehervar club will have a chance in next week's match.
How big a surprise was it in Switzerland that Basel recently sacked their manager Heiko Vogelt?
I would not say that it was a total surprise to the people that they changed their manager. You could feel it in the air for several weeks that something would happen. Everyone was used to Basel being at the top of the table. They are in fourth place after twelve league games, but it is true to say that it is not because they lost many games, as they only lost once, but the six draws has meant that they have dropped many points. Perhaps the final straw was the 2-2 home draw with Genk in the Europa league.
How big is the fan base of Basel, How popular are the club in Switzerland?
They have quite a lot of supporters, and I would say that they are popular. They often have around 35-40,000 supporters for their big matches. I would also add that they play their home games in one of the nicest stadiums in Switzerland.
