Videoton FC picked up their first silverware of a new era on Friday evening. An 83rd minute individual effort from Brazilian striker Andre Alves gave new boss Paulo Sousa his first trophy. The Portuguese manager made several decisions before the match, with Tomas Tujvel preferred in goal to Mladen Bozsovic. Spanish defensive duo Alvaro Brachi and Hector Cabrera played in the full back positions, while Gabor Horvath and captain Zoltan Liptak occupied the central defensive positions. Daniel Nagy started on the right of midfield with the third Spaniard on the left, in the form of Walter Balufo. Recent signing from Ujpest, Nikola Mitrovic and Gyorgy Sandor played in the middle together with Akos Elek, with lone striker Alves up front.

The home side missed chance after chance, and in the end that cost them the cup. Andre Alves showed great skill to create space for himself, before hitting a sweet shot, which gave veteran keeper Nemeth no chance,as the ball settled into the back of the net. That seemed to knock the stuffing out of the violets and came at a perfect time. So Videoton secured revenge for the Hungarian cup final defeat in May. Now the focus will  switch to the even more important Champions league match, with an away leg in Austria next week.
