It has been more than 10 years since Videoton have played a league match in Sopron. That was back in the summer of 2006 when Sopron FC beat Vidi 2-1. Haladas are currently rebuilding their stadium, which is why the Szombathely side have been using the Sopron stadium for their home games. Haladas manager Geza Meszoly has seen his side perform well in their home fixtures with only Gyirmot being able to get 3 points.
Henning Berg kept the same team that won a week earlier in Debrecen. The first chance fell on 5 minutes when Haladas player Balint Gaal curled his 24 meters free kick on goal, which Kovacsik comfortably saved. Vidi's first chance came a couple of minutes later when Hadzic did well to release Scepovics, who found the back of the net, but the referee blew for offside. The Serbian forward did score after 16 minutes to put Videoton ahead. Lazovics took a quick free kick and Hadzic crossed low to the far post for the arriving Scepovics to guide home from close range (0-1). That was his 8th league goal of the season and he has now reached both Robert Feczesin and FTC forward Marco Djuricin in the top goalscorers list.
Geresi then found himself with the ball moments later and the youngster took the ball beyond the home defenders, before hitting his left foot shot beyond the post. Adam Kovacsik then pulled off a lovely save on the half hour mark. Haladas' experienced 37 year old Peter Halmosi hit a promising effort at goal, which the Vidi keeper denied. The action continued with a 25 meters shot from Scepovics that just slip wide of the bottom right post. Vidi comfortably defended their lead in the remaining minutes of the first period.
Vasas had gone into the game leading the OTP league division and they were in action away at Paks. However, they found themselves trailing 1-0 to Aurel Csertoi's side and that meant that Vidi led the table with 2 points at that point.
The second half started with a long range effort from Gaal, but his freekick lacked power and Kovacsik dealt with it confidently. There was a good long range effort from home player Racz, but his low shot did not trouble the visiting keeper. Hadzic played a low ball through the middle for Lazovics, who shot at goal from 14 meters, but keeper Gyurjan was equal to it and saved with his legs.
Racz played a good one-two before shooting just over from 15 meters. Haladas were back in the match a minute later. They had been the more active and Halmosi won a free kick, which Gaal stood behind. He sent a powerful free kick into the bottom left corner (1-1). That saw both Vidi and Vasas on 34 points but the Fehervar side enjoyed a better goal difference to stay at the top.
Scepovics showed good skill on 63 minutes before seeing his shot go just wide. Szolnoki also had an effort that went wide 5 minutes later. The 72nd minute saw a Lazovics corner that Vinicius headed just over the crossbar. Lazovics took a quick freekick after 81 minutes that substitute Feczesin converted into the back of the net, but the match official blew his whistle to disallow the goal. The freekick was retaken but Vidi could not find the second goal. There was still time for Lazovics to curl a shot at goal that brought off a good save from the Haladas keeper.
Kovacsik was again in the middle of the action when he denied Halmosi from close range after 86 minutes. Haladas again threatened shortly after but Iszlai sent his 18 meters shot just wide. Vasas lost away at Paks and the final whistle blew in Sopron as Vidi gained a point to overtake the Budapest side and go into the winter break looking down on the others in the OTP league.
Videoton returned to the top of the table after a period of 560 days. Scepovics and Feczesin are joint top goalscorers with FTC forward Djuricin, although Ferencvaros still have a match tonight against MTK.
