Paulo Sousa managed Videoton to their second silverware since joining the club in the summer.
The Portuguese manager's first key match in charge of Vidi came in the summer Super Cup final. That match was also played at the Szektoi stadium in Kecskemet, and just like in that 1-0 win, Vidi repeated the feat with a good 3-0 league cup final win over the violets. Sousa made changes to the side that beat Vasas at the weekend. Videoton had emerged top of their group in the earlier rounds of the league cup. They then beat Diosgyőr over two legs to clinch a place in the semi-finals, where they saw off Papa. Kecskemet themselves are also in good form at the moment, and they made sure that things would not be easy for the Szekesfehervar side. Kecskemet went into the final with a big advantage of playing at home. This was due to an earlier draw, which took place to determine the venue for the final.

Torghelle was active early in the match, battling hard to create openings for his side. Oliveira layed the ball into the path of Mitrovic after 6 minutes, and the midfielder hit it powerfully at goal, before being blocked and cleared from danger. Veteran home striker Attila Tokoli broke down the left, with his cross falling for Alempijevics to shoot at the alert Tujvel, who saved his effort. Kecskemet had their best chance after 34 minutes. Litsingi turned infront of goal, and shot from 10 meters, but Tujvel did very well to get his hand to the ball and turn it around the post. Vidi then took the lead four minutes later, after Szolnoki's cross was headed by Torghelle across the face of the goal, for Sandor to control before beating one defender and rounding the keeper to score. Vidi went into the break with a lead under their belts, after Kecskemet could find no way back in to the match for the final 5 minutes of the first period.

Alempijevics was involved in the first talking point of the second half, when he went down in the Vidi box, only for the referee to rule against him and caution him at the same time. Vidi were seeing more of the ball and denying both Savic and Tokoli possession, which meant that Kecskemet would find it hard to get something out of the match. The experienced Tokoli then claimed to have been struck by Caneira's elbow, but the match official did not see anything wrong and waved play on. Walter then had to be assisted off the pitch two minutes later, when he was caught by a home defenders elbow. The Spaniard left the pitch with a bloody face, to be replaced by Adam Gyurcso, who came on to face his former club. The young right winger was barely on the pitch, when he found himself on the end of a good Mitrovic through ball, before calmly placing the ball beyond the Kecskemet keeper to make the game more or less safe.

Nikolics came on with 15 minutes remaining and he scored the best goal of the match. Hector did well on the left to play the ball to Nikolics, who turned inside before curling the ball into the far corner of the net, to secure Vidi's third league cup final success, since the competition began. The red and blues produced a solid and confident performance, and once they had taken the lead, Kecskemet could find no way back. It was the second cup success of the season, and made up some way for the Hungarian cup exit a couple of weeks ago.
