Videoton battle against a very defensive Mezokovesd side to gain the win

             OTP League Division One
             Sostoi Stadium, Szekesfehervar
              Match Officials: Erdős (Tóth, Takács)

Vidi faced league division one newcomers Mezokovesd for the first time in their history on Friday evening. In nice conditions, considering we are now in November, there was a nice atmosphere under the lights of the Sostoi stadium. Manager José Gomes was forced into changes with Mamadu starting the match at right back, with young Zsolt Tar partnering Vinicius at the heart of defence. Visitors Mezokovesd included former Vidi captain Balazs Farkas in their starting line-up.

On the attack from the beginning

The home side began the match by immediately taking the initiative, creating goalscoring chances one after the other. Fotyik handled inside the box in the opening minute, but the match official waved play on. The 6th minute saw Nildo supply Nikolics with a good ball, which he controlled well, before hitting a left footed shot from 10 meters out, which produced a good save from visiting keeper Horvath, with the ball going behind for a corner. Gyurcso then had a smart header at goal following a ball in by Stopira shortly after. The header brought another good save from Horvath, who was being kept busy. Sandor was then forced to come off with a thigh strain on 20 minutes, with Balazs Toth coming on in his place.

A 25th minute free kick resulted in Gyurcso's shot taking a deflection, which required a save at full stretch from Horvath. Vidi continued to be dangerous, and just 4 minutes later, Nildo curled a ball that went just beyond the top left hand corner. Nikolics and Nildo showed good link up play, which ended with a shot from Nikolics, that brought yet another brave save from the visiting keeper. The match official blew for half time with the teams going in at the break with the score at 0-0.

Tactical changes at the start of the second half

Vidi switched to a three man defence at the start of the second half, with Mamadu pushing further forward on the left hand side, while Nildo moved inside. There were hardly 10 minutes before a further tactical move, which saw Zé Luis come on for defender Tar. This meant that Vidi had two forwards on, with Balazs Toth moving back into defence. The Fehervar side were virtually camped inside the visitors half, with Mezokovesd not really wanting to attack the home side. They were happy to sit back and defend with 10 men, although they did this with plenty of organization. Mamadu went off after 68 minutes, with Kleinheisler coming on in his place. This gave Vidi an even more attack minded look to their side. It is hard to imagine a more attacking formation for a Videoton side. Zé Luis saw his header crash back off the crossbar, following a Gyurcso cross on 75 minutes.

Winning goal arrived in the 84th minute

The home pressure paid off in the 84th minute, when it appeared that a defender handled after a Kleinheisler cross, but the match official judged the situation differently. However, there was nothing to stop Kleinheisler from breaking the deadlock a few moments later, following good skill, which resulted in a nice goal. Mezokovesd came forward in the final 5 minutes, and Balazs Farkas saw his long range shot come back off the post in the 90th minute. There was no further change to the scoreline as the match official blew for full time. Vidi totally deserved the three points based on the entire performance, creating many chances against a very defensive side.
