A Nikolics goal towards the end of the first half saw the side lead by 1-0. The second half then saw many goals hit the back of the net. Vidi have managed 7 goals in a league fixture in 2007, 2011 and now again in 2015.
Vidi went out on to the pitch to face Haladas knowing that FTC had beaten Ujpest 2-0 in the big Budapest derby. That saw them cut the gap down to 8 points at the top of the table, overtaking MTK to sit in second place in the OTP league.
Club director Győző Burcsa was on hand to give an award to Istvan Kovacs before the game, with the midfielder having recently played his 100th first division game against Ujpest.
Injury to the international midfielder meant that he could not be part of manager Joan Carrillo's starting eleven. That resulted in both Feczesin and Nikolics being together on the pitch from the start. Nikolics, with 18 goals to his name and comfortably leading the top goalscorers list, played in the same role that Kovacs does, sitting just behind forward Feczesin.
A long range Gyurcso shot after 2 minutes saw Romanian U21 international keeper keep that effort out. The keeper is on loan at Lazar Szentes' side from Italian team Juventus. The resulting corner ended with Juhasz heading at goal, but a Haladas player was well placed on the goal line to clear the danger. The domination from the home side was further confirmed when Vidi took their 5th corner after just 11 minutes! That proved to be very dangerous as Nikolics hit the post from close range. Another big chance arrived minutes later, but again Vidi could not find the back of the net. It was just a matter of time for the breakthrough to arrive.
The 23rd minute ended with Gyurcso finding Nikolics with a lovely ball, and the forward made no mistake to find the back of the Haladas net from 5 meters out. (1-0). That was Nikolics' 19th goal of an impressive season in the top division. Niko has twice ended a season with 18 goals to be top goalscorer, but when he went one better with 19 in 2012, he ended in second place behind Debrecen forward Coulibaly on 20.
A quick counter attack on 34 minutes ended with Niko squaring the ball to his right to Gyurcso, who returned the ball in to the middle, but the ball was just behind Nikolics. The visiting side were reduced to 10 men after 38 minutes. Martinez slid in on Gyurcso's leg, which produced a straight red from the match official. The protests of the visiting mamaher, Lazar Szentes also resulted in him having to sit in the stands. A dangerous Juhasz header and a long distance Stopira striker brought the first half to an end.
There were no changes at the break from either side. There was not long to wait before Vidi extended their lead: A nice move on 52 minutes ended with Oliveira crossing to the middle for the unmarked Feczesin to roll the ball home. (2-0). Three minutes past and two goalscoreres combined, but this time the cross from Feczesin was just to high for the pouncing Nikolics. A quickly taken corner after 63 minutes found its way to the feet of Oliveira, who did well to curl the ball in for Feczesin to rise highest to make it 3-0 with his head. Feczesin almost scored his third goal in the 67th minute. However, a lovely ball from Trebotic, who had come on just before did not end up with another goal. That was not the case in the 70th minute, when a one-two ended with the Croatian midfielder calmly making it 4-0. Trebotic then released Nikolics after a quick counter attack, who hit his shot first time, but the keeper saved the effort, but the ball fell kindly to Trebotic, who made no mistake to make it 5-0. Vidi have already managed to win two games this season by a 5-0 scoreline. Those came at home to MTK and away at Papa.
The team were not finished and the players put on a real show at the Sostoi stadium. Substitute Ivanovski provided a good ball to Oliveira after 86 minutes, and he made no mistake from close range to increase the lead to 6-0. There was still time for one more goal and that arrived after 88 minutes. A Nikolics cross was deflected in to his own net by Feher to complete the scoring. 7-0. Ivanovski went close to scoring his first goal in the first division. Vidi have once before hit seven past Haladas, which came 45 years ago in a 7-1 win. Today proved to be the biggest ever win over the Szombathely side.
Vidi managed a similar score back on the 19th November 2011 with a 7-0 thrashing of Tatabanya. Vidi are next in action on the 19th April in a league match at the home of DVTK.
