Videoton play out a goaless draw in Budapest with Vasas

OTP League Division One
VASAS-HID - VIDEOTON FC 0-0 (0-0)
Illovszky Stadium, Budapest - Att: 3,000

Vasas: Ilizi, Kovács, Gáspár, Sütő, Kulcsár, Mehmedagic, Farkas, Bárányos, (Jokic, 72.), Katona, (Ferkó, 61.), Simic, Dajic
Videoton: Tujvel, Oliveira, Caneira, Vaskó, (Tóth, 80.), Brachi, Gosztonyi, (Walter Lee, 58.), Sándor, Mitrovic, Vasiljevic, (Nikolic, 72.), Alves, Evandro

Another two vital points were left behind at the Illovszky stadium on Saturday afternoon. Vidi found it hard to break through a stubborn Vasas defence, which included last season's club captain Balazs Farkas playing in a defensive midfield role for the Budapest club. Tujvel kept his place in goal, and kept his second clean sheet in a row. Elek was missing with a slight hamstring pull, as Vasziljevic came in for a rare start in midfield. New signing Balazs Toth, who returned to his original club following successful years away in Holland and Belgium, was named on the subs bench. Alves played as a lone striker, with Gosztonyi and Evandro playing just behind him on the wings.

Dajic almost put the hosts ahead on 18 minutes, but Tujvel was alert to clear the danger. Mitrovics just failed to put Vidi ahead a minute before half time. His good one-two on the edge of the area, saw him then shoot just wide of the post, in what was the last chance of the first period. Videoton perhaps had the majority of chances, but the home side showed plenty of fight to stay in the game.

Katona took a corner for Vasas after 47 minutes, which Simic headed wide. Brachi then had a good free kick well saved by IIizi. The 57th minute should have seen Vidi go ahead. Vasziljevics found himself in front of goal but he failed to cleanly connect with the ball, in what should have been a goal for the midfielder. Walter came on for Gosztonyi and looked busy on the left side straight away. Dajic then headed over after a good cross came in from Ferko on the left. Giant central defender Tamas Vasko then picked up an ankle injury towards the end, and that signalled the introduction of Balazs Toth, who came on to add a further body in midfield.

Alves then had the chance of the match on 82 minutes but he blasted over, when it was easier to find the back of the net. It summed up Vidi's day, and that was as close as they were to come to scoring on this sunny Budapest afternoon. The referee blew for full time, and it was a case of two points lost as Vidi picked up a single point in this goaless draw. They now have a home match with ZTE next Friday to look to win.
