The Serbian striker looked sharp in the last few games of the season
Videoton forward Nemanja Nikolics looks back over the autumn season, as well as to the Christmas holidays at home. The popular forward was just starting to hit form when the winter break arrived....
+ I started to play well towards the end of the season, so it is a shame that the final league and cup games of the year were both postponed. However, that is probably just as good, when you look at the state of most of the pitches. I felt that we did well over the autumn season, and we are leading the table by seven points. We mustn't stop at this point, and we need to have a good pre season, where I feel that we can increase that lead in the second part of the season. We will need the same kind of motivation as up to now, which has got us to where we are now. We will also need to concentrate and not make the same mistakes as we did last year. That ended up costing us the league title. This team is now a different side, even if there have not been too many changes to the squad. I am very positive about my own future at the club.
- How is this side better?
+ They say that you should learn from your mistakes, and I feel as if we have done this. You can also feel and see how successful the side wants to be, from the moment we run out onto the pitch, all we want to do is win. Motivation is half the success.
- Most memorable match?
+ I have not played as much as I would have wanted to, or as last season, but it is still hard to choose. Perhaps the home game with Ferencvaros, as I scored the equalising goal, and helped the side pick up a point at home. The other important game was the 1-0 home win over Ujpest. I scored the games only goal in the second half. This was also special as it was our first win over them since I have been at Videoton.
- The surprise of the season?
+ I would count the game at Siofok and the home match with Honved. We have spoken a lot about the match at Siofok, which was the first game of the season. That was the first game, which was played in very hot weather, which did not help us play, but we can also say that we have to quickly forget about that match, and stand back up and go forward. The Honved game was more painful, as not only was it a home game, but we managed to win 6 games in a row leading up to that match. I would count these two as the failures of the autumn season. .
- Goal of the season?
+ We scored many good goals. Alves' first goal against Haladas was memorable, but at the same time, my goal against Ferencvaros was not that ugly.
- What do you plan to do in the weeks ahead?
+ I spent a few days in Austria with my girlfriend recently. I will now go home for the Christmas celebrations, and send time with my parents in their home. I plan to make use of the time now, as I didn't manage to come home during the autumn season. My girlfriend will also come out and visit me after Christmas. I will then have a week or two rest before I start to jog, go to the gym and do some swimming. I want to be in a good condition when we get back to training in January.
