Match Report: Record win against Debrecen

Vidi have never scored 5 goals against Debrecen and it was also the fifth consecutive win over them.

Two of the most successful sides in recent years came face to face on Sunday evening at Felcsut. The Pancho Arena played host to Videoton and Debrecen in the final match of the weekend. Both teams suffered a 1-0 defeat during the week as Vidi lost to MTK, while Debrecen also lost by a single goal at home to Haladas.

Videoton were quick to try and erase the memory of the midweek game against MTK as they put Debrecen under pressure from virtually the first minute. Feczesin sent in a high ball to the far post on 4 minutes, which Oliveira headed from close range, and it clipped the post. Geresi sent a shot at Danilovics, which the keeper collected a minute later.

Debrecen scored a goal against the run of play after 14 minutes. Vinicius headed clear a long ball forward, which fell to Ferenczi, who volleyed a shot from 17 meters into the back of the net. Kovacsik got a finger to it but it ended up in the top left corner. (0-1).

The 17th minute saw Geresi make Danilovics work in the visiting goal, and the equaliser came after 24 minutes. A corner on the right from Lazovic went to Feczesin, who connected with the ball as it fell nicely into the path of Lang, who from close range found the back of the net. (1-1.) It was the international defenders second goal in first division football. He would go on to score a further goal in the second half.

The action continued on 32 minutes as Vidi turned the score around and went ahead on the night. Geresi took the ball beyond his man and ended up being brought to the floor inside the box, but he reacted fastest to get back on his feet and curl the ball into the bottom of the net. (2-1).

The two sides went in at the break with the red and blues leading 2-1. The picture of the match did not change too much in the second half as Vidi continued to dictate things on the pitch! Nego sent in a ball from the right after 48 minutes, which found the unmarked Lazovic, whose good header was saved by Danilovics. The seventh corner for the home side ended up in the back of the net. The ball fell to Lang, who showed good movement to score a great goal from 15 meters. It was a goal that a forward would have been proud of. (3-1). Lang had scored two goals in a first division match inside an hour and double the amount of goals that he had managed in 78 league games to date.

Vidi continued to press forward and did not take their foot of the pedal. There were 71 minutes on the clock when Lazovic released Geresi with a lovely ball, and he found himself one-on-one with Danilovics, and Geresi tried to place the ball wide of the keeper, but Danilovics produced a lovely save. Geresi again received a fine ball two minutes later, but he chose to pass instead of shoot, and his ball went to Feczesin, who guided the ball home to make it 4-1 on the night.

There was still time for more action as keeper Adam Kovacsik showed on 83 minutes that his place in the national squad was justified. He pulled off a great stop to deny Tisza from 20 meters. Henning Berg's side scored their fifth goal of the evening in the 92nd minute. Bodi sent in a cross, which Feczesin connected well with to beat the visiting keeper and make it 5-1. That was the final action of the night as the referee blew for full time.

Vidi had never before managed to score 5 goals against Debrecen in a single match. It was also the fifth consecutive win over the team from the east of Hungary. Videoton had beaten Debrecen by four goals some 33 years ago, but went one better tonight.

There now follows an international break with the league season continuing on the 10th September. Vidi take on third in the table Haladas at the Pancho Arena.
