Istvan Kovacs receives call up to the Hungarian squad

The young midfielder was named for the first time by Hungarian manager Sandor Egervari

21 year old Istvan Kovacs has began the spring season in hot form for Videoton, which has resulted in him earning a call up to the national team. He has scored a couple of good goals in the league games to date, and now has the chance to step up on the international stage.

"Istvan Kovács has been developing nicely month to month, and the time has come where he can be of assistance to the international team. We will give him all the help he needs in order that he can adjust in to the national team set up without any problems." - said Hungarian manager Sandor Egervari.

Istvan Kovács shared his thoughts on the call up following training today.

"Sandor Egervari called me up personally today, and I found out from him that he is counting on me for the national squad. Naturally I was surprised at first with the news, but at the same time very pleased. I have the chance to follow in the footsteps of both Adam Gyurcso and Roland Szolnoki, who have already been members of the senior squad. My aim is to become a regular member of the team as time goes by. I am also clear with the fact that being named in the squad does not mean that I will end up on the pitch. I will not be disappointed if it turns out that I cannot make my debut for Hungary. I also know that I still have a lot to develop in. We have two very hard matches coming up. We need to keep the three points at home against Romania. Then there will probably be a very difficult atmosphere in Turkey a few days later."
