In conversation with Gyorgy Sandor - Part 2

In the interviews so far with the foreign players, they have mentioned many times that the atmosphere within the dressing room is very good, and that you have a big role to play in this.

As a club captain, which I have already learned, you have to be "multi functional". You have to be a captain both on and off the pitch. You have to lift the atmosphere, while motivating and leading the team in a positive direction. You also have to represent the team off the field of play. I do not always like to be the centre of attention. I am a friendly person, and I will gladly help out when others turn to me. 

We are presently in third position, nine points behind leaders Debrecen. How do you see things?

We are still in the race. Both Debrecen and Győr produced a very high performance over the autumn season. My father often says that you have to work twice as hard over the spring season for one point, than you had to over autumn. We will do everything to close the gap and fight for everything. We will be waiting to take advantage when our rivals stumble. We also have both the top two visiting our stadium over spring, so these games will be especially important.

Your father is a coach for one of our big rivals, working for Győr. Have you discussed the spring season with him?

We have not digested the autumn season yet. The truth is that when our two sides come up against each other, we do not talk about football in the week leading up to that game, as it would be uncomfortable. We try to avoid the subject.

Repeating the question, as the fans will anyway deal with this for the next three months: Does the team need changing to?

Changes can be both good and bad. If I look at the way the coaching staff are preparing, and look at the current squad, then I think that we need to strengthen a bit more. The overall target is European football at the end of the season, and if I look at how far Sturm managed to go in the cup, and I did not feel that we were weaker than them, then I can say, that this squad can achieve its targets. At the same time, the big foreign clubs are a good example that you can never have a strong enough squad. I can say in both my name and the other players, that we will welcome the best players to our club with open arms.

Are you missing not playing right now?

The first week after the end of the autumn season is about rest. Then you get a personal training plan to carry out from the following week. Once that period is over, than I am sure that I will miss the games, but then it will be about looking forward to the training camp. However, I want to enjoy the rest at the moment.
