A second half goal from Martinez was enough to give Győri ETO the three points.
Videoton FC played their first home league match of 2014 at the Sostoi stadium. Their opponents were last season’s champions Győri ETO. The national anthem played out before the match as a mark of respect to the national holiday of the 15th March. Both teams went into the match looking for maximum points in a game that saw second face third in the OTP league table.
The first chance came in the 5th minute, when Vinicius found himself with the ball inside the Győr box, before hitting a left foot shot, which Kamenar saved. The home side remained on the attack, while Győr hit dangerous counter attacks. Gyurcso sent in a free kick, which went over, while the visitors defence either cleared the danger or the final pass did not succeed. There were some good solutions from Sandor and Gyurcso who tried to open things up. Rudolf had the first real chance for Győr, with his shot going just over in the 24th minute. Haraszti then saw his low shot go just wide of the post, as his effort flew across the goalmouth on the half hour.
There were small chances on both sides and with the half time whistle about to blow, Varga hit a good shot onto the bar, with the rebound falling inside the box, and both Vinicius and Patkai battled for the loose ball. The match official saw a foul and blew for a penalty. He also sent off Vidi defender Paulo Vinicius. Rudolf stood behind the ball and saw Calatayud dive to his right to palm the ball away.
There were no changes at the break for Videoton, while Győr made a single switch to their team. Gyurcso and Zé Luis both tried with efforts, but without any luck. Rudolf shot into the side netting for Győr, who were relying on high balls forward. The visitors took the lead from a long ball forward and Varga's cross was headed into the back of the net by Martinez on 67 minutes. (0-1).
Sandor hit a powerful shot at goal after the visitors’ opener, which produced a smart stop from Kamenar. Nikolics came on as a substitute as Vidi tried everything to get the equalizer in the final 20 minutes. ETO kept the lead as they defended, and tried to rely on counter attacks. It was the visitors who ended up taking the three points back to Győr.
Debrecen played out a 1-1 draw away at FTC, which means that they have a 7 points lead over Vidi, who remain in second. Next up is a visit to Pecs on Tuesday in the League cup.
