Friendly draw against NK Osijek

Vidi played out a 1-1 pre-season friendly draw in Croatia on Thursday afternoon.

Huge rain soaked Muraszentmárton hours before the NK Osijek - MOL Fehérvár FC pre-season friendly match, but by the time the players started to warm up, the heavens had turned off the taps and the match started on an ideal football pitch.

Imre Szabics chose the following side: Kovácsik - Kojnok, Lüftner, Stopira, Funsho - Alef, Houri - Petrjak, Kovács I., Dárdai - Zivzivadze.

The match started at a good pace and in the fourth minute, after our first corner, Stopira, who was left inside the penalty area, headed a cross from the right, but Malenica, who spent the previous half of the season with Diósgyőr, saved with some difficulty. In the next quarter of an hour we had a few small chances, such as Funsho's long range shot and Dárdai's cross from the left, which although it was well put in, unfortunately nobody connected with. In the 22nd minute, István Kovács' pass was fired towards goal by Dárdai from a tight angle, but Malenica's saved and it went out for a corner.

Half an hour into the game, former Puskás Akadémia striker Mance found himself in a shooting position 12 yards from goal, but the ball got stuck in both Stopira and a puddle, and a minute later former Diósgyőr striker Grgic shot narrowly wide of Kovácsik's goal. Five minutes before the end of the first half, Petrjak's cross was headed wide by Dárdai, but it went wide by inches.

At the half time break, Imre Szabics and Nenad Bjelica made no changes, and the second half started with a nice attack and a shot from Dárdai, but our midfielder couldn't find the net. In the 50th minute, another promising move saw Funsho try to cross to Dárdai, but a sliding Croatian full-back hit the ball out for a corner. In the 52nd minute NK Osijek took the lead - after a quick free kick Grzan centred into the middle and Bockaj, who arrived inside the penalty area, put the ball into the net with a powerful shot (1-0).

Ten minutes after the goal, Zivzivadze turned well away from the keeper, but his 18-metre low shot was saved by Malenica. Two minutes later, the Croatian goalkeeper was at work again, first blocking Dárdai's long-range shot and then, following Houri's corner, bravely pushing Stopira's header wide. In the 65th minute, he was helpless as Zivzivadze slid another Houri corner into the back of the net from close range (1-1).

When our equaliser went in, Olivér Tamás and Dániel Kovács were already on the pitch, replacing István Kovács and Ádám Kovácsik.

With a quarter of an hour to go, a cross from the right was met by substitute Topcagic, who arrived at the near post, but fired narrowly wide of Kovács goal from close range. In the 82nd minute, Houri's superb ball was headed goalwards by Funsho, his 12-metre low shot was bravely saved by the home substitute keeper Sajko, the rebound fell to Funsho, this time the ball went over. Five minutes before the end, Houri sent a 23-metre free-kick, but Sajko was again on hand to deny him. Keeper Dániel Kovács was needed in front of our goal line, but Bohar's powerful effort was well saved by our goalkeeper.

There were no other noteworthy chances in the remainder of the game, so we ended the friendly with a draw. On Thursday, 8 July, at 20:00 at the MOL Arena Sósto, Vidi will play against Ararat Yerevan.
