Debrecen take the points at the Sostoi stadium

Nikolics scored a 15th minute opener for Videoton but Debrecen came from behind to secure the win.

It was a very important game on Sunday afternoon, following Győr's win on Saturday over MTK, which saw them overtake Videoton to go into second place.

There were over 5000 supporters inside the Sostoi stadium in near perfect conditions on a lovely sunny day in Szekesfehervar. The two sides kicked off and the first few minutes were all about both sides carefully trying to gain the upper hand. There were very few chances with Haraszti curling his free kick after 6 minutes towards goal, although there was never any danger for Novakovic in the visiting goal. The 15th minute saw Sandor release Nikolics with a precise through ball, with the Vidi forward taking the ball beyond Mate, before rounding Novakovic to give Videoton the lead (1-0).

Caneira then appeared to be pulled down inside the box, 10 minutes after the opening goal. However, the match official remained silent and played the advantage. Debrecen hit a quick counter attack, which led to their equaliser. Novakovic began the move that ended at the feet of Szakaly, who shot at Calatayud, but his close range shot produced a very good save from the Spanish keeper, although an unlucky rebound went in off Caneira (1-1).

The match was almost a half an hour old when Caneira went close to almost finding the back of the Debrecen net. His header from close brought a smart save from keeper Novakovic. The visitors took the lead after another quick counter attack. Morozov did not connect well with the ball, but his volley fortunately found Mate who curled the ball in to the back of the net to make it (1-2). Kulcsar then fed Szakaly with a lovely ball on 42 minutes, but he was too laid back and the goal scoring chance was missed.

Zé Luis came on at the break in place of Nildo as Vidi switched to two up front. Haraszti escaped down the left on 51 minutes, before crossing the ball in to the middle for Nikolics to shoot at goal, but Novakovic was again in the right place to save his effort. Haraszti hit his shot over the bar from 21 meters after 62 minutes as Vidi tried hard to get back into the match. Oliveira came on for the final 20 minutes of the match and made an effect with his performance, although sadly it was not enough against a Debrecen side that was happy to defend in numbers and kick the ball clear at every chance.

The 74th minute saw Stopira head towards Kovacs, who hit a powerful effort from a tight angle, which the Debrecen keeper saved well. Oliveria had a big chance with 5 minutes left, but he was squeezed out by three defenders. The final effort of the match fell to Tisza who shot wide from 15 meters out.

Debrecen picked up the three points while Videoton are next in action with an away game at Kecskemet.
