Videoton FC - Kaposvar 3-0

Confident win in the first competitive game of 2014

Vidi's goals came from Zé Luis, Nildo and Lupeta as they comfortably beat Kaposvar at the Sostoi stadium.

2014 finally kicked off in style at the Sostoi stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Kaposvar under a new manager and a very different side were the opponents in this League cup match. It was the first competitive game of the year with around 1500 supporters turning out for this early afternoon kick off.

Vidi confidently directed the match, even though the first real chance came after 10 minutes. Alvarez hit a high ball towards goal, which the arriving Oliveira heading just over from a tight angle. The lead arrived after 24 minutes following a nice move: Nildo's cross into the box was met well by the head of Zé Luis, who directed his header beyond keeper Antal, to make it 1-0. It was the first goal of 2014 in a competitive match! A powerful Thian effort on the half hour was saved by Calatayud in the home goal. There were several dangerous looking free kicks in the remaining minutes of the first half.

The picture of the match did not change in the second half, with Vidi doing what they more or less wanted to on the pitch. Alvarez showed good skill after 59 minutes as he burst in to the box, before hitting a left footed shot at goal, but it came back off the left post and bounced away. Zé Luis had another good chance on 66 minutes as he shot at goal from another tight angle.

Nildo and Lupeta worked well together four minutes later, with the latter finding himself with a clear chance at goal, but his first shot was saved by Antal, with the rebound being headed into the back of the net to make it 2-0. Haraszti could have increased the lead after 72 minutes, but a defender managed to slide in at the last moment. Substitute Lupeta made the final score 3-0 in the 88th minute with a powerful shot, which flew in past a helpless keeper. Nildo provided a good ball, which saw Lupeta hold off his marker to find the target.

Vidi will take a good advantage into the second leg of this league cup quarter finals, with the return leg taking place next Tuesday, with a 13:30pm kick off in Kaposvar. The complete match can be seen on our Vidi Youtube channel, which covered today's match live!
