Videoton kicked off their league cup campaign with a 1-1 draw away at Kaposvar on Wednesday
Paulo Sousa gave the youngsters a chance in the first game of this season's league cup. Vidi travelled south to Kaposvar, with just 5 of the first team squad on duty for Wednesday's match. The majority of the first team members were rested as part of their regeneration. Kaposvar took an early lead after just 2 minutes, when Kovacevic beat Somodi in the Videoton goal from close range to put them one up.
The home side had more of the possession in the early stages, but the young Videoton side slowly picked up the tempo, with the game becoming more balanced after 10-15 minutes. Vrucina had two small efforts to score, but neither found the back of the net. The first of those arrived after 17 minutes, following a good ball from Bole. However, Somodi was on hand to save well from a left footed strike from the Kaposvar player. Uros Nikolics was nicely linking things up in the middle for Vidi, with new signing Paraiba showing great pace up front, giving the Kaposvar defence problems. The match was level after 25 minutes. Paraiba dribbled inside from the left, and his right foot shot found it's way into the goal to make it 1-1.
The 38th minute saw Bole receive a long ball on the left, before he crossed it into the middle, where Vrucina volleyed it from the edge of the box, but over the bar. Vidi had the final chance of the first half, after a corner from Barcsay, was headed out by the defender. The rebound fell to Zsoter, who fired it at goal, but once again the ball went over the crossbar.
The second half began with a big chance: Posza came out of his goal badly to try and get the ball, with Barcsay attempting to find the empty net from far out, but a defender managed to clear the danger on the line. The home keeper was forced to come off with an injury, with Horvath replacing him in the Kaposvar goal. Paraiba beat his man after 51 minutes, by once again showing his pace, with his left foot effort going just wide of the left hand post. There were small chances for both sides in the minutes that followed. Kaka was having a big battle with Vrucina in front of the Vidi goal, while Paraiba showed his skills every 5-10 minutes, to keep the small crowd entertained.
Kaposvar put Vidi under pressure towards the end, with Bole's free kick after 88 minutes being headed by Kirchner, with Somodi doing well to save. Vrucina then played himself in well a minute later, before hitting it into the middle, for Major to arrive at the far post, but he failed to head it into the goal. Referee Balazs Berke then blew for full time, following two minutes of added time, to bring the league cup tie to an end. The young Videoton side did very well to pick up a point against a far more experienced Kaposvar team.
