A special match for Torghelle and Juhász

The two good friends enjoyed great success together with MTK, and a decade later they played a lot of matches against each other. Today they are working towards common goals - right now they are helping Imre Szabics prepare Vidi against their former te

On Saturday evening we visit MTK in the 16th round of the OTP Bank Liga NB I. Our team's coaching staff includes two young professionals who used to play together as players at MTK and later played against each other in fierce matches, but their friendship has stood the test of time and they are now working together for Vidi's success.

I think games like this are worth being a footballer for...

"We played our most memorable game together with Roli Juhász against Ferencváros at MTK in 2004, when we won 1-0 with Pisont's goal. That game had it all, a 1-0 win, a big fight and four red cards - one of which I got," Sándor Torghelle recalled with a laugh reflecting on their most memorable MTK game together, and then continued. "I think those games are worth being a footballer for, that game was full of emotion on and off the pitch."

"My most memorable match is also against FTC, where I played together with Sanyi for MTK. In 2003, we won the Super Cup final 2-0 in the Puskás Ferenc Stadium. I don't understand why this isn't Sanyi's favourite match, he scored a goal and, as far as I know, he won this one major trophy as a player at home, so I'm glad I could help him win a trophy," said our former captain with a smile.

On the pitch we were opponents and we didn't spare each other...

"Later on, as opponents, we fought several big battles, most of the times we came out victorious, but there were also matches when MTK won against us with Sanyi's goal. In such cases, we put aside our friendship for 90 minutes, we were opponents on the pitch and we did not spare each other. We had some hard tussles, obviously not roughly, but we would step on each other hard if the situation was like that," recalled Roland Juhász.

"There was a match in Felcsút in 2016, we lost 5-0 to Vidi. In that game I didn't play much because there was a centre-back who kept provoking me and I wasn't so calm, so the referee Andó-Szabó thought it better to send me to the showers after around the 25th minute," Sándor Torghelle recalled with a laugh. "A few months later, I took a noble revenge for everything, and my goal gave us a 1-0 win."

For us it is always a different feeling when MTK is our opponent......

The two good friends are now "playing" together again, working towards common goals. In the next match, they will have a prestige game at MTK's home.

"It always feels different for us when MTK is our opponent, but the blue and white club has changed a lot since I left. Sanyi obviously has more recent memories, he played in the new stadium as an MTK player. We have an important match on Saturday, our away results in the autumn didn't go as we would have liked. It would be nice to get 6 points in our last two games this season!

"But for this to happen" - Sándor Torghelle explained - "that everyone on the pitch has to give one hundred percent. You not only need to bring quality to the pitch, you also need to have the inner fire, because quality alone is only one thing, but to make it work in matches, you have to fight for the team with all your heart and soul. That's what we try to help the players with in midweek training sessions and on match days."
