A disappointing season ended with Vidi failing to qualify for Europe for the first time in four years.
The target did not change: Vidi were battling for the league title with Jose Gomes remaining as head coach. There were changes to the coaching team with Francisco Jose Ruiz Rojas arriving as goalkeeping coach. The fitness coaching was further assisted by Daniel Papp. Stopli became the new mascot for the football club and quickly became a favourite with the youngsters.
Busy transfer window for the Fehervar club
First in was Vitor Gomes who had joined a season before on loan. The move was made permanent when the midfielder signed from Rio Ave. Arturo Alvarez also joined Vidi in a similar move. Defender Roland Juhasz moved to Szekesfehervar to strengthen the defence. Defender Mamadu joined from Portuguese second division side Deportivo Aves, while midfielder Laszlo Kleinheisler continued his career in Fehervar. Moris Enete was another to make the move to Hungary. Experienced keeper Juan Calatayud and left winger Nildo Petrolina were further arrivals. Hungarian defender Gabor Gyepes also signed on the dotted line while Gyorgy Sandor returned from his loan stint in Saudi Arabia. Forward Ze Luis joined in a loan move to add strength to the attack.
Players leaving the club included defender Hector Sanchez, keeper Mladen Bozsovic, defender Tamas Vasko and Uros Nikolics. Adrian Szekeres also departed for pasters new while forward Laszlo Lencse and midfielder Zsolt Haraszti left to join the Puskas Academy in loan moves.
Short pre-season and a win in the Europa League
Pre-season started with the usual medical tests. The squad headed to Austria for a pre-season camp and friendly matches.
The competitive matches soon arrived and Europa League action. Vidi were drawn against Montenegro club Mladost Podgorica. A 2-1 home leg win was followed up by a disappointing 1-0 defeat in Podgorica, which meant that Vidi exited the cup at the first stage.
Good start to the season and second place finish in the autumn
The new league season started with a comfortable 2-0 win over Haladas. Vidi then beat Ferencvaros in Budapest by the same scoreline. Pecs were beaten 5-1 and Paks were seen off at the Sostoi after a 4-1 win. Győri ETO and Vidi shared the points in a 1-1 draw as Vidi moved to the top of the table with a 2-0 win against MTK.
The first defeat came in the 6th game of the season and a 2-0 defeat at Debrecen. However, Vidi returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Kecskemet. Papa were also beaten on their home pitch 2-1. The Sostoi stadium was the location when Vidi eased past Ujpest 3-0 as the results continued to come. They achieved the same scoreline against the Puskas Academy. The team then suffered a loss in form in the remaining four games of the autumn season. They lost 2-1 at Honved and 1-0 away at Kaposvar. Mezokovesd were beaten 1-0 at the Sostoi and the season came to a close with a 2-2 draw away at DVTK.
The first two matches of the spring season were played at the tail end of autumn and included a 1-1 draw with Haladas. The final match of the year ended in a 3-2 home defeat to Ferencvaros. That resulted in a second place finish and 33 points gained from 10 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats.
Limited success in cup competitions
The Hungarian cup ended quickly for Vidi. The team came in at round 4 stage and beat Bekescsaba 1-0. That saw them go into the last 16 but DVTK would beat Videoton 1-0 over two legs.
Quiet transfer window and a training camp in Spain
There was no movement over the transfer window. Uros Nikolics returned from a loan spell at Puskas Academy, while three youngsters arrived on loan in the form of Mark Barcsay, Roland Baracskai and Tibor Molnar. Experienced duo Sandor Torghelle and Gabor Gyepes left the club while Milan Perics moved to Pecs in a loan deal.
The squad headed for their training base near Malaga for the usual preparations ahead of the spring season. Various friendly matches were arranged and things looked positive looking ahead.
Vidi miss out on a top three finish
Vidi were battling to win the league as the second half of the season started. It started with two draws against sides where maximum points were expected. Vidi drew 1-1 with Pecs and then 2-2 at Paks. A 1-0 defeat at Győr then followed. The first win of the spring came at the home of MTK with Vidi coming away with a 2-1 win. However, that failed to signal a start of another good run as Vidi lost 2-1 to Debrecen and then 3-1 at Kecskemet. The 2-2 draw with Papa saw Vidi slip to 4th in the league table.
They seemed to shake off the bad form with a 2-1 win over Ujpest and a confident display in the 3-1 win over Puskas Academy. Honved were beaten 1-0 and then Kaposvar by a 2-0 scoreline. The last two games of the season resulted in dropped points and two draws against sides battling relegation.
Videoton missed out on the Europa League with 53 points gained from the league season. That included 15 wins, 8 draws and 7 defeats. One good point was Nemanja Nikolics who ended the season as top goalscorer for the second time.
Head coach Jose Gomes parted company with the club after the Portuguese coach' contract was not extended.
